Easter/Passover Plans

What are you making? Are you hosting? Going somewhere else?

We are going to my sister in law's. The family is all bringing a dish or two as she just had a baby a week ago. It will be mostly cold type dishes so its easier.  Why in gods creation she would want 18 people in her house with a newborn is beyond me, but what do i know.  She says she doesn't want to leave her house and she doesn't want to have people coming in and out all day...............This is the first baby in both families so it should be interesting.  Apologies for the side vent

  • Passover at my house tomorrow night.  I'm having a mild panic attack.  I've already horoset, boiled eggs, marinated the lamb, chicken soup, and kefilte fish.  Tonight half bake potato kugel and matzah balls.  Tomorrow grill lamb, brisket, string beans.  Others are bringing desserts.
  • Good luck @BlueBirdMB, sounds like you got yourself a good plan!!

  • Great job @BlueBirdMB!

We are at IL's today with 3 of DH's brothers. The oldest brother has a daughter and three sons. No one else present had any kids. We did a big Easter egg hunt for the kids.

Menu: Deviled eggs, meatballs, cheese and potato pierogies (store bought), stadium and cheddar brats, BBQ beer salmon, French fries, Mac n cheese, and asparagus.

It is kind of a disjointed menu, but it is part Easter and part youngest BIL's birthday/going away party. He is leaving for Air Force bootcamp tomorrow.

  • DH's grandfather lives about an hour from us and we are the closest family. It has become our tradition to drive out and go to church with him and then have dinner at his house.

He lives alone and doesn't cook so the kitchen isn't the best work/prep space so I bring everything pre-made and just warm things up in his oven. =)

    This year, our menu was:
    Ham with a Riesling/shallot/mustard sauce
    Goat cheese mashed potatoes
    Cauliflower gratin
Spinach salad with a sherry-shallot vinaigrette

It all turned out really well! I warmed the mashed potatoes up in my slow cooker (first time trying this) and it totally worked.
