Re: I Hate

  • Hope your family and home weren't affected!! Prayers for those who were. The footage on the news this morning was definitely scary.

  • I don't blame you. I would be terrified! We've had some in CT and it's definitely scary!

  • I have to admit, I'm pretty bad about tornado season. I've lived in Kansas my entire life and never once seen or been in one so I don't take the weather warnings as seriously as I should. Though we do keep water and supplies in our basement just in case.

  • Luckily we weren't affected this time, but we've come close before. It's weird because as a kid I loved this time of year I would get such an adrenaline rush from it. But the past few years as an adult I just get scared to death. I want to say it was two or three years ago we had a tornado hit the town next to us and I'm not usually a religious person but oh I was that day.

    Agreed with this.

Last year there was a tornado that came within about 5 miles of my apartment.  Tore up a good chunk of some of the Bham suburbs and then turned at the last minute before it hit us.  There were two in a row that came down exactly the same route.

And of course, I lived on the 4th floor, the apartment was designed with semi-open stairwells, so I had to go the bottom floor, hunker under the stairwell, and I was basically outside during it.  It was so scary.  I called H that night and told him that I would no longer consider houses without a basement.

A girl I work with was in the Tuscaloosa tornadoes a few years ago.  Her entire house blew away.  Literally the only thing left standing was the fireplace.  Thankfully, she and her family were not hurt.

  • I think the absolute scariest incident for me was about three years ago, when a tornado hit Lancaster/Dallas. Nate worked for Schneider at the time and had to hand unload Family Dollar loads at each store. I was at home watching the news, seeing trailers and tractors flying in the air knowing he is delivering to a store right by there and is supposed to take his truck to the yard (where all the trucks were flying out of) afterwards so he could come home. I started calling and calling him but only got his voicemail. I swear I was going to have a panic attack. I called a few people we knew to see if they could get through but they couldn't. About an hour later he called me, he had been in his trailer in the middle of delivering when all the store employees helping him unload just disappeared for a few minutes not saying a word to him that there is a tornado nearby and his phone had run out of battery. Needless to say, the Schneider yard with flying trucks was almost exactly five miles south of where he was.

  • I can't even imagine.  So scary.
  • we were just hit with golf ball size hail but thankfully no tornadoes. Our cars got some damage. DH is trying to decide whether to claim it on insurance but its just cosmetic so I don't think its worth it
