NBR: Date Night ideas

What's your favorite go to date night activity?  Our restaurant choices have been uninspired lately and neither of us has a craving for anything in particular.  We aren't interested enough in any of the movies playing right now. B&N has lost it's appeal, too.  We have a sitter for tonight, but no idea what to do or where to go.  And unfortunately, we really, really need this date night with work/school stressing us both out to the max.

No joke, that's not a bad idea.  Something that gets the adrenaline going and stress flowing out.  I've been bottling it up lately and I think that would be excellent.  F1 isn't that far.

  • Maybe something like Dave & Buster's? The one here has the arcade, pool tables, plus a few bars and a bowling alley, so lots of choices! You can also look up local places that have open mic nights or live music and hang out/eat at one of those. Our list for dates right now includes an indoor rock climbing center and a huge adult trampoline place. Groupon and Living Social might have helpful ideas too!

    Have fun!!

  • I don't know where you live or how the weather is right now...
But my H and I will sometimes play mini-golf or go bowling. We've also gotten a drink and then done a boardwalk-type stroll, just to talk.

We ghost hunt on nights like that. :) we save mini golf for vacations. What about batting cages? Driving range?

  • We always have fun at Dave and Buster's! if it's nice out is there somewhere to go with live music and drinks outside? Or maybe a beer tasting somewhere.

  • Honestly, we always make big plans and have grand ideas for creative date nights, but when it comes down to it the most relaxing dates, where we connect the most, are simple nice dinner/bar dates where we drink and chat the whole time. The rare nights we get away together, that's what we do and I love it.

  • So, @SnShne322, what did you end up doing?

We had a date night on Saturday night for DH's birthday, and wound up stopping by our friends house for the tail end of their 3 year old's birthday party, just because it was a chance to have a couple of drinks with our friends, and then we went out to dinner at one of the same-old-same-old restaurants we always go to and neither of us were very impressed with our meals.  I was asleep in bed by 11 pm.  Wild and crazy.

  • We ended up at a local brewery for dinner/drinks.  Food was meh, drinks were decent, and the company was great;)  We went for coffee after at a new cafe.

Sometimes I feel like our conversations lack substance these days.  I talk about books and his eyes glaze over and the same goes when he talks about his cars. Our minds are 100 different places other than each other that we can barely talk about normal things.  Obviously the key to this is doing a date night or just 'forced' together time so we are actually engaging instead of just being around each other thinking it's the same thing.  I guess this is the whole marriage requires work stuff.  Not that it hasn't been work in the past, but the maintenance now is so much more. We both forgot how important it is.

Sorry, I didn't mean to end up spewing my marriage details.

Oh and I was a sleep by 10:30.  I see 11 so rarely these days, you're a step ahead of me!

  • I'm right there with you on the whole marriage is work thing.  After DH got hurt last summer, I've found myself resenting him a lot of the time for stuff that I know is completely outside of his control.  I have to constantly remind myself just to not be angry with him, never mind to engage and have a decent relationship.  So you're a step ahead of me on that one!  It's not all bad, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a struggle sometimes.

I'm glad you guys at least got out and did something, anyway!
  • DH and I never see each other--and it never fails, when my mom has DD, we always say we are going to go out to dinner, but honestly, we end up ordering curbside takeout, going home, and watching Harry Potter or some other movie and then falling asleep on the couch.  I kind of like those nights better than going out somewhere sometimes.
