You just went on a carnival cruise right? I asked about cruises a couple months ago and you had some good things to say about carnival. It looks like you just got back recently. How was it? Do you mind me bugging you with questions? Curious what ship/itinerary. How do the kids like it? Do they do any of the kid club stuff?

Thinking about cruises again. There's 1 on princess I'm really interested in because of timing and the itinerary. We went on princess about 8 years ago and liked it (but no kid then). But I was reloading at carnival again and thinking about them. I feel like they have a little more fun stuff activity wise on the ships vs princess for kids. And there's a couple itineraries/dates that work. Disney cruise is just too expensive and royal Caribbean doesn't have any dates/itineraries that work. So I'm looking at these two. Just curious about your trip since you just went.

Thanks!

  • We had a great trip! Again, I don't have any other cruise experiences to compare it to, but we have no regrets about going with Carnival again.

We sailed out of Baltimore on the Carnival Pride, the ship leaves Sunday afternoon. We had 2 1/2 days at sea, port day at Grand Turk (great beach, right off the pier), port day at Half Moon Cay (Carnival private island, great beach with clear, smooth water, a bit more walking but still convenient), port day at Freeport (beaches are 20-30 minutes from ship and it is the shortest stop), and then one day at sea before you arrive back in Baltimore Sunday morning. If you are interested in more detail/suggestions for the ports, let me know.

On the first day we went to the Camp Carnival orientation, where we got the overview of how it works and a list of all of the activities all week. I asked Heather to read through the list and mark anything that sounded interesting. I said that we wouldn't promise to send her to everything that sounded good, but it would help us plan our days, especially port days. She circled about half of the items on the sheet, and every day at least one kid went to Camp Carnival, if not both. It was especially nice on port days so that Rudy and I had some down time.

We used the mini golf course, the ping pong tables, the water slide, the hot tub, the pool, and liked both the casual and formal dining options. We watched a movie on Lido deck (the one night they had one that started before 8), Rudy took some yoga classes, I got 10,000 steps most days, and we did a few of the trivia events. The ILs (MIL, SIL, BIL, niece, etc) went to a bunch of the concerts, took advantage of the night club, and enjoyed the casino.

We might investigate other ports for our next cruise. By that time, Todd will be able to fly without needing his bulky car seat, so having to fly to port will be less of a hassle. The only downside of cruising out of Baltimore in the spring is that the beginning and end of the cruise isn't that warm. I was happy to just be on vacation, but MIL was happier when we got to the warmer weather.

Does that help? Let me know if you have more questions.
