The 2016 presidential election has already kicked off and several presidential hopefuls have already kicked off their campaign efforts. Hillary Clinton, is one of these hopefuls and shes received some attention for her unusual choice of campaign car. Its an armored Chevrolet Express. Her campaign car isnt the first unusual one, however. Heres a look at some other cars driven by past presidents and president hopefuls.
The Beast
Though the president doesnt actually drive this vehicle, he does ride in the back of it. Its heavily armored and gets just 4 miles to the gallon.
Chrysler 300C
Before he was president, Barak Obama was the proud owner of a Chrysler 300C. He purchased it just after being elected Senator and sold it just after being elected President.
Ford F-Series Pickup
George W. Bush was a rancher long before he was a president. So its not surprising that his vehicle of choice is a pickup.
1967 Ford Mustang Convertible
Bill Clinton always was one for style. His 1967 Mustang convertible was owned by his brother, Roger, first but Bill is the more famous owner.
Subaru Brat
Strangely enough, Ronald Reagan drove a red Subaru Brat to get around on his California ranch. He also gave regular performance reviews to the Japanese automaker.
Amphicar
Lyndon Johnson wins the award for the strangest car on this list. The Amphicar, as the name implies wasnt just built for driving. It also operated as a strange looking boat. He enjoyed pranking terrified passengers by driving it straight into a lake while shouting The brakes dont work!
The Presidential Limousine
This car isnt just famous because John F. Kennedy rode in it. Its famous for being the limousine transporting President Kennedy when he was shot and killed. Surprisingly, the limo (renamed X-100 by the Secret Service) wasnt immediately retired after Kennedys shooting. It was further modified and used by Presidents Johnson, Nixon, Ford, and Carter. It was finally decommissioned in 1977 and now sits in the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, Michigan.
Harry Trumans Chryslers
President Truman had a thing for Chryslers. He owned many of them throughout his life. Two of them are on display at the Truman Presidential Library near Kansas City. He famously drove one of his Chryslers from Washington to Kansas while president.
The Stanley Steamer
The first US president to ride in an automobile was William McKinley, the 25th president. The automobile was a Stanley Steamer which (as the name implies) ran on steam. For an affordable car insurance quote, call (855) 683-7757.
