workout clothes

When I started running 2 years ago, I bought a few shirts and some longer shorts....i'm not running anymore, so I'm wearing those clothes when taking my fitness classes at work, but the styles are just not working for me at this point and I need something different (the shirts are all too loose around the bottom, so they tend to fall up if we're doing anything bending over/upside down/etc)  Looking for something that will stay put but also isn't super skin tight. Any specific brands you love?  I'm hoping to not have to spend a small fortune.

My shorts are the kind that come to your knee, but they've been washed/worn so many times they're starting to get small tears along the seams (really need to get a new pair before we have a terribly unfortunate incident along a particular seam! :-O )  Recommend your favorites, please!! :)

Re: workout clothes

  • Do you read Pinterest Told Me To? (If not, I have to ask why. Lol!) She reviewed a bunch of work out clothes the other day. http://pinteresttoldmeto.blogspot.com/2015/04/just-do-it.html?m=1

Since I wear baggy tshirts and sweats, I'm afraid I'm no help outside of that. :)

She's in my blog lovin' feed, but I'm way behind on posts!  off to check that out now...thanks!!

PS- I rock the baggy ts and sweats at home, but I'm afraid of giving everyone a free show when I bend over in public!!

  • I'm a big fan of Gap Body's yoga pants (even in shoulder stand at yoga, they don't go past my knees). Capris - I recently tried and really like Zella brand from Nordstrom (also on Nordstrom Rack). I did opt for a snug fit, but they're flattering, so I'm okay with them being the more legging like fit. I just got a pair of their leggings for $19.99 on Nordstrom Rack :)

My favorite tanks are from Gap and these. I have them in a ridiculous number of colors mostly cause I pick them up off the sales rack. I also love their v-neck tees
As for shorts, I don't wear them so I have not suggestions. I prefer a capri tight. I have several pairs from gap, but I like my under armour ones a lot. I have the Studio Tight Capri and an older looser style. These are on my wish list. My sisters are fans of Nike and Under Armour ones but they are short (like 3" inseam).

ETA: I scour the clearance racks a Dick's, Gap, Nordstroms, Macy's and get pretty good deals. I have tried the outlets but honestly get way better deals on clearance or sales than at the outlet.

  • 3 inch inseam, hahahaha!  Is there a 13 inch inseam?  I guess when I was saying shorts, they really do fit more like capris, the 2 pair I have hit just at my knee.  I just can't do pants, I feel like I'm suffocating.

Potentially TMI question, but with these tighter-fitting leggings style things....do you have panty lines, or do you just opt for a thong?  The ones I have now I can get away with regular underwear....

  • I tend to opt for a thong. If I forget and wear regular cut underwear, it's not the end of the world, but I just feel like they can kind of bunch up, so I prefer the thong.

I wear regular underwear, my regular underwear are mostly seamless so no pantylines for the most part. I don't do thongs, ever. Plus, I like my tops longer so that solves that problem

  • I hate thongs, try to avoid them at all costs!!

I have a mix of athleta, target and old navy. I wear Capri tights to class. I hate long pants and most shorts (I do have some Bermuda length target tights that I wear running in hot weather)

My fav capris are target C9 but they are always changing styles so I can never find exactly the same. My new fav tops are ON

I wear workout thongs from target C9. Although they changed styles too. I am a thong wearer so can't imagine wearing regular underwear. I know some people wear nothing but I can't do it!

  • I don't know if you have a Costco membership but the Kirkland Signature workout pants (aka Lululemon knockoffs) are great and super cheap. They are fitted but not as fitted as a legging. They would be a bit longer than your shorts but not much. I have had a pair for 3-4 years and they still look great. Although I hang dry all my workout clothes which keeps the fabric from stretching and fading.

  • I also like the Gap tanks and pants.  I usually wear capri pants because the long pants make me too hot.  And I wear my tanks long enough that I don't worry about panty lines...I like to make sure my bum is covered!  I have a few C9 tanks (from Target) that I like - all of which do not come up when I'm bending over.  And they're not super expensive.  I've also picked up a few pairs of pants at Kohl's and Sam's Club - also not a ton of money.  I hate to spend $$$ on clothes that all I do in them is sweat for an hour at a clip.  Also, make sure everything is tight - a woman that goes to my yoga class at work wears her tanks too loose.  She also does not wear a bra.   :-S   I've seen way more of her than I should see of any co-worker.
  • To me, exercising in a thong would be absolute torture, but to my knowledge, panty lines with my regular undies aren't an issue.  I have a few C9 things from target, but the pants seem to fit a bit low for me (not an issue if you don't have a belly like mine).

I got a few shirts from Kohls which are semi-fitted so they don't seem to fly up like a regular t-shirt, but they're also not skin tight either.

Overall I've had good luck with TJ Maxx and Marshalls, but I always try stuff on.

  • I just bought some compression capris and active dry shirts from Old Navy. I bought the men's size small shirts and they seem more comfortable and breathable. I really like them. They fit well and they don't fly up when I'm doing yoga moves (particularly important since I do my PIYO video in the work gym!).

  • I've been really happy with Old Navy's work out clothes.  I do wear a thong under my tighter workout pants.  I hate panty lines and I'm not brave enough to go comando.
