Lurker here - did any of you have a home warranty? If so, did you have to use it/did they really fix/cover the issue? We have one, expires in September and the dishwasher is crap - pieces are melting off/already melted. I'm wondering if its worth the call and the $75 to have them come out and the likelihood they would actually replace it.
Re: Home warranties
We got one with our house last year when we bought - our realtor/friend paid $80 to add on the pool warranty. Let's just say when we went to renew last month, we found out we were red flagged back in October. So, needless to say, we used our quite a lot in the year (granted the majority of it was for the pool).
Pool heater replaced ($3500), numerous pool pump parts replaced (prob $1K worth)
Garbage disposal motor burned out - they replaced the whole disposal
We had trouble with the furnace when we first moved in and they fixed
So, for us, it was well worth it. We ended up buying another warranty, and adding appliances on (which will cover the fridge, the washer/dryer, etc.) - at roughly $840 / yr with the pool coverage, it's well worth it right now to have a $60 co-pay.
