Any Milestones this week? He's more consistently sleeping in in the mornings. We've had a few 14 hour nights/9:30am wake-ups. He gets his sleeping ability from his parents, lol.

He fell asleep coming home from the Memorial Day parade in his wagon. It was hilarious. We took a video. It's on facebook, but I think I'm only friends with one of you! Feel free to friend me.

How old are your LOs (Little Ones)? 8 months on Saturday

How do you feel? Tired. But, Wren has been sleeping a lot better, usually only waking up once a night.

Any Milestones this week? She started crawling last Wednesday! She's starting to pull herself up to a standing position, but still forgets to hold on the whole time. I think she'll be walking soon. Oh, she has been clapping her hands for a while now, but the other day, her teacher noticed that she was clapping in time with a Veggie Tales song. I'm so hoping she gets some musical talent from H/his family or from my family. I sorta got skipped, but I'm hoping it passes through me to her!

    Rants/Thoughts/Baby pics? No pics today

    ETA: another milestone

How do you feel?  Don't even know if I'm coming or going.

Any Milestones this week? She claps, blows kisses, stands... it's always something new everyday.

    Rants/Thoughts/Baby pics?

I'm at my wits end with sleep.  I haven't gotten more than 3 hours straight in 2 months.  My fuse is so short, I can't function at work, which is beyond crazy right now.  Jeff has been working 6 day weeks, but gets to sleep in the truck, uninterrupted for 10 hours 3 days a week.  I'm getting jealous and resentful. I've tried everything and the only way she'll sleep is me to feed her.  If I ask Jeff to take a bottle in, he'll just take her downstairs to play #nothelping.  He sees it as me getting sleep, but it's not helping her learn TO SLEEP.  She puts herself to sleep when she wants.  She'll play and fall asleep.  If she's crying she will cry herself horse.  I'm waving the white flag.  Jeff is off 4 days this weekend, so I plan to talk to him and get on the same page.  We have got to figure something out this weekend or I'll be going to the loony bin ASAP.

  • @mana8503 - I just had a coming to Jesus with H about exactly what you are describing above.

He finally woke up (no pun intended) and realized how much it affects me to not get any sleep. He is now taking the first wake-up of the night every night.

Hang in there, friend. It WILL eventually get better!

H thinks letting me nap on weekends is going to fix it.  No, I need SLEEP AT NIGHT.  I've been napping and now our house is beyond gross.  I feel like my whole life is "cluttered".  There's no consistent thing in it, except sleep deprivation.

I'm speed reading Ferber now.  I already started our convo on him helping, and that's getting her to sleep, not playing.

@mana8503 Good Luck!  We tried Ferber's method and us going in to soothe O made her even worse.  We tried some no cry methods, but there were plenty of tears here.  We had to just let her cry.  Our pediatrician told us it is alright as long as she was safe.  We are on night 6 and she is asleep on her own in under 5 minutes and has been sleeping without a peep for 10-11 hours.

@sjs1013 - Yea, I think I'm going to have to do the same thing.  I tried to go in and soothe and she SCREAMED.  I feed her enough to calm her down and put her back in the crib.  She cried for 10 mins and went to sleep.   I knew the basics of Ferber, but it wasn't working so I thought I should read it...  So far I'm not learning anything new.

@mrshall1027 - I wish someone told me this: just because they sleep good at 8 weeks doesn't mean it'll stick.  E slept though the night at 8 weeks, and then at 3.5 mons all hell broke loose with the 4 month sleep regression.  Slept mostly through the night at 5-6 months, for 2 weeks 11 hours straight!  And now I'm struggling through another regression since early april.  IT SUCKS.

ETA - I hope it works for you!  I just let those good sleep times lull me into a false sense of security.

  • @mana8503 so true. A has never kept the same hours of sleep consistently for longer than a week or two. Just when I think I can count on X hours it changes.
  • @mrshall1027 please don't try to get her to sleep through the night when she is so little. Books like "Babywise" and other programs that do this have been linked to things like dehydration and failure to thrive. Here is an article from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

She is growing and developing very rapidly and needs the milk at night. She also needs to have a caregiver close for emotional support. Sometimes babies just wake up. Not always out of hunger, but out of emotional need to be close to someone.

This period she is in now, up until about 12 weeks, is considered the 4th trimester. She is just getting acclimated to being in the outside world and everything is new and loud and scary and exciting and overwhelming.

Be there for her. I know it sucks and I know how hard it is. Believe me. My kid still doesn't sleep through the night. But, it is all worth it and you WILL figure out how to function.

Just remember, this phase is temporary. She will start to sleep longer. Let her do it on her own time. Or, at least wait until she is at least 6 months old to begin sleep training.

  • Congratulations @mpjf1001!!!

Accidentally posted my update it the last thread oops
  • Thanks for all the input ladies.  I definitely don't expect her to sleep 8+ hours a night this young, but 4-5 would be good.  I'll have to read more about it and I'll check out that article you posted @Willy1020.
