Do you think that doctors should have a mandatory retirement age?

No, not necessarily. However, I do think that doctors should have to take recertification exams every few years. I know that some specialties require this to keep their board certification, but it's certainly not universal. H has to take a recertification exam every 6 years for his PA boards...Drs should have to do the same.

I agree with ^^. There should be recertification after a certain amount of time.

I have to take classes every year to keep my law license active, idk if medical doctors do that or not, but it should be required.

Do surgeons have to do any tests to make sure they still have awesome dexterity after several years? I think that would be a good thing.

I agree with all of the above.  Most licensed professionals need to complete continuing education.  Doctors definitely should so they are always up to date with the newest procedures and treatments.

Definitely agreeing with prior posts in the case of trying to keep up with recertification. I have to redo certifications every year on any of the tests that I run at work in order for us to keep our accreditation. I don't see why anyone who practices in an even more serious job field would be exempt from something similar to that. Especially in cases where the technology is constantly advancing.

Although I may be biased on the results since I really haven't had too many older doctors. I think the closest one I had was my allergist as a child and my dad basically compared her to an army general because of how tough she was.

I agree that there should be mandatory recertification which I am not exactly sure that is.  I know my step mom had to do it to keep her board certification but if her certification expired she could still practice medicine.  I also know that she does continuing ed.  Her and my dad just went to California to do a white water rafting/survival training class.  How that pertains to a hospital in a city, I'm not really sure.  (She's an ER dr for those that didn't know.)

In a way I am surprised that there is no mandatory retirement age since there are other careers that do including pilots, air traffic controllers, certain law enforcement and judges.

Agree with pp's. I've always thought that people should be required to retake driving tests to make sure they are still able to operate a vehicle safely. So, definitely think doctors should have to do something to show they are still able to practice medicine safely.
