tell me about your kitchen remodel

We will be starting this process soon.  I'm already overwhelmed. . . too many decisions.  We have an awesome contractor & this will be our 3rd huge project together.  I've known him since we were teens & he does great work.  So I don't have any trust issues.

What I'd like to know from all of you is how long it took?  What you did during . . . plug the fridge in the living room?  Use a crock pot?  the BBQ?  eat out?

Also how did you make the various decisions . . . colors?  Cabinet material?  drawer pulls?  appliance brands etc.?

Re: tell me about your kitchen remodel

  • Hi! So we purchased our foreclosure on New Year's Eve. We live in a very expensive part of the country so we tried to salvage what we could, so that we could afford knocking down a wall and putting in an island and so that I could feel less guilty about my expensive taste!

We weren't living in the house at the time, but I have a feeling your suggestions would be fine. Crock pot + microwavable meals would be what I'd do, plus maybe some dinners like rotiserrie chicken taken out from the grocery store.

I did a post on another board including the breakdown of our budget if you're interested! image

    Best of luck!!

You refurbished your cabin's, correct?  basically pained them white?  that is not an option for us, unfortunately. They have to be replaced.

the transformation is beautiful.  Enjoy it!
  • Our lasted about 7 weeks from demo to being 100% done.  We moved the fridge and microwave into the dining room for the time being.  Our project was in the summer so we grilled out some, ordered pizza and lived off of what we could make in the microwave or on our Griddler.

We started with the cabinet selection (color and style) then we picked out our countertops, then our floor tile and backsplash and finally paint.  Start with the features that are most important to you and what you want to be the biggest impact, otherwise it is super easy to get overwhelmed by the choices.

For all of our choices we wanted good quality without going super high-end.  This is our forever house so we want it to last but we didn't want to spend our retirement funds on something that doesn't add function or value.

Your kitchen are really cool :) I love this white kitchen cupboard, but in my opinion you should add small table or something for coffee, my best is http://takemehome-shop.com/.
  • Lame attempt to advertise, @ColinJarecky.  Which is not allowed either.  Shame on you.
