Hormone insanity?

I'm not really sure where to start, but basically for the last seven years my hormones seem to be heading in a very strange direction and I'm at a loss about what to do. For background, I was diagnosed at 12 with PCOS (wasn't informed of any adverse effects to the condition, though it would have been nice as a heads-up), and was placed on birth control to manage the cysts. I stopped taking birth control at 17 since the hormones began making me feel incredibly uncomfortable. My husband and I then had our first child the following year but after giving birth I noticed a very sudden downswing. I only breastfed for 11 months, but my period didn't return until I was 21 (that's three years of no menstruation at all). My doctor didn't want to talk about it and told me just to be happy it came back. Well, it was around that time that my husband and I thought it would be a good time to try for another baby. What I wasn't expecting, however, was my period to either just be spotting, or significantly heavy flows that were beyond painful. Then it just would disappear and not come back for months on end and I'd be caught in massive hot flashes and body temperature fluctuations. Still my doctor told me not to worry. Then a few months before turning 23, my period vanished completely and never came back. During this time frame my breasts ballooned from a 32D to a 32G (post-breastfeeding). Luckily, after trying for 2.5 years with no real menstruation, I found that I was pregnant. I had cysts throughout the pregnancy which made for very unsettling trips to the ER and found myself practically bedridden (which was the complete opposite of my first pregnancy). Now my second child is four months and since her birth I haven't had any bleeding, my hot flashes are worse than ever, and now all of my body hair seems to falling out/not growing. I'm practically bald in my pubic region, my legs have very light fuzz (haven't shaved them since before her birth) and even my armpit hair isn't coming in. I have absolutely no idea what's going on, but my GYN doesn't want to discuss any of it with me because all of the "possibilities are for older age groups". Last year, right before I discovered I was pregnant, my GP was thinking about testing me for early-menopause or even ovarian cancer, but being pregnant put it all on hold and now none of my doctors want to consider it because I'm "too young". I'm going to try to switch practices as soon as I can, but I am very uncertain about everything and was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this kind of hormonal issue/lost body hair all of a sudden? It's all very disconcerting, especially since I haven't had a real/healthy/regular period since I was 17.
Thank you for reading!

Re: Hormone insanity?

  • Find a new doctor ASAP. Dr. Google is dangerous and no one on this forum has the same body or Sam experiences as you. Find a qualified and reputable physician who is dedicated to helping you by finding a diagnosis. Your current doc sounds like a hack and shouldn't be practicing.
