Choosing a birth control method

What are you ladies using to prevent pregnancy for the next few years? 

I am deciding between the Skyla, Mirena and Nuva RIng

I have the Mirena- absolutely love it. I've had it just over a year now with no issues.  I no longer get a period and occasionally have some spotting that is few and far between. I was on the pill for 13 years before switching to the Mirena, its so nice to not worry about a pill and i didn't have any issues with the horomones in the Mirena.

If you trust your doctor of GYN enough I'd say have a conversation as they all can have different side effects. I'm still on the pill, I'm too nervous to try an IUD although I would love to not have to track a pill everyday. If you have any health problems or history of health problems just talk to your doctor to make sure the side effects won't hurt anything.

@dutchgirl76 is right.  You should def mention it to your doctor, they may be able to help you narrow it down.  I spoke to mine in length before coming off the pill and trying an IUD.

I use the generic version of Seasonalle (sp?) bc pills.  I forget the generic name.  But those are the pills you take for three months continuously, so you only have your period 4x per year.

It takes some time for your body to get used to that.  So new users may not be able to go three months without their period happening.  But each time will become longer and longer, up to three months.

Another benefit for me, though this is true of any bc pill, is my periods are much lighter and I have fewer cramps/backaches, etc.

I can't use BCP and the Nuva ring worked pretty well until I took it out when i had a pretty bad period with cramps lasting up to day 6. I already spoke with my GYN and she was going to let me choose. I am still undecided.

I know 3 women who were on the Nuva ring that became pregnent while on it. Not sure if there is a wrong way to use that or if they were just that small percentage where it fails.

I've heard you have to be careful with IUD if you have allergies to fake jewelry. Not sure if it's true but I could see where that would be a problem since it's made with copper. I'm more weary as I haven't had a child, apparently it works better after childbirth (you can google the physical reasons why), although more women are taking it. I guess I stick with the pill because I"m afraid I'd screw something like Nuva ring up, although you have to remember to take the pill everyday so that has plenty of human error.

What about the BC in the arm now, an implant? Could that work? I think it's good for 3 years, possibly no periods once it's up and running.

I'm using the FAM (Fertility Awareness Method). I've been doing this for several years (even before I was dating) because I have PCOS and it helped me get my cycles regular and under control. I love it, and  I feel pretty safe. When I'm fertile we just use condoms or a cervical cap with spermicide.. or both. 

I know several couples that have been using this method for years, and none of them have gotten pregnant. So, I'm pretty confident about it.

I love fam I used it for over 4 years and it was amazing. Unfortunately I can't do FAM atm because my schedule is crazy hours and little sleep and thus it wont be predictable nor accurate under my circumstances. I migth start temping again even if irregularly to know when I am ovulating
