I have a fairly small reach-in closet in a small bedroom, and am trying to find the closet door option that would require the least amount of floor space while still providing full access to the closet. I don't like sliding doors because you can only access half the closet at a time (as it is the door opening doesn't go all the way to the ends, so it's tough to reach the stuff at the closet ends). And the current bi-fold doors, while providing good closet access, require about 18 inches of clear floor space in front of the closet to open - valuable real estate!!
Are there other types of closet doors that would provide full access to the closet opening, but don't open into the room?
Re: Closet door options
Other than hanging beads...I think the sliding or the bi-fold door options are the standards. The only other thing I could think of is a pocket door.
You have to have a large enough wall on one or both sides of the closet though, to make this work. And, that wall would be easier to use a pocket door in if it didn't also have any electrical boxes (outlets/switches) in it. If the wall does have electrical, that would have to be removed or rerouted before adding the pocket door.
