Clearly this is more appropriate for the Fitness Board, but I'm posting here first to see if any body is interested since MM is wonderfully active. If this gets up and rolling, I would post all future posts about it in the Fitness Board.
Basically, I need help with weight loss. I am guessing many of you out there need help/motivation too. I know a very popular thing is to do challenges with groups of friends or people you know for the motivation and accountability - I see these challenge things on Facebook a lot. For a variety of reasons, I'm not able to do that with people here where I live, so I am turning to you to see if you will join me.
I propose we do a Nest weight loss challenge. I will pick a start date and we go for 12 weeks. Each week there would be a report-in day where people submit the percentage of weight they have lost. Percentage lost is what the show Biggest Loser uses rather than actual pounds lost. Percentage lost enables the show to determine which contestant has lost the most and makes it more like comparing apples to apples between contestants. People can also post in for motivation and ideas throughout the challenge.
Respond by Sunday, July 19th by 5:00pm CT to this post if you're IN with your Screen Name and your starting weight! Even if we just have a few people, it is still worth it. Do not be shy! All are welcome!
Details: We would kick-off this coming Monday, July 20th. Report-in days would be every Monday going forward. The Challenge would end on Monday, October 12th as that would be the final report-in. Since we are an online community and physical prizes do not work for us - the winner would receive many Nest congrats from fellow Nesties for winning!
On report-in days: You need to provide your new weight and your calculated weight loss percentage. The equation for this is:
1. Divide the number of pounds lost by your starting weight.
2. Multiply the answer from Step 1 by 100.
Example: If I weigh 160 pounds and in a week I lost 4 pounds, I would do 4/160 = .025. Then, I would do .025*100=2.5% So, for that week I would have lost 2.5%. If another Nestie weighed 165 pounds and she lost 4 pounds that week, we would do 4/165=.024 Then, .024*100=2.42%. So for that week, I would have won (yay me).
As the weeks progress, you would be providing a few numbers at report-in...
1. Your starting weight for the week.
2. Your percentage weight loss for that week.
3. Your percentage OVERALL weight loss using your starting weight from Challenge start.
And, we really have no way to verify your accuracy or honesty, so everybody is just on their honor.
You cannot join the Challenge after the 19th, so if you are even close to wanting to join in, do so by Sunday at 5:00pm CT.
