The GOP Candidates not in the top 10 are wasting peoples' time and money

I think the "bottom pile" GOP candidates who aren't making it into the later/better of the GOP debate tomorrow night need to be realistic and pragmatic and more responsible with peoples' money. Why are they even still campaigning? It's like saying, "I am going to lose and I'm not being realistic, but yes I'll accept your donations." What the heck! And, who in their right mind would still donate to a GOP candidate's campaign that has NO CHANCE of getting the GOP nomination??? This irks me...it's wasteful spending!!!

Re: The GOP Candidates not in the top 10 are wasting peoples' time and money

  • If people want to donate and continue their campaigns, why stop them?  Let stupid be stupid.

Let's be serious.  Most of the bottom pile aren't running because they actually think they will win.  They are running to build notoriety.  I was actually really impressed with Carly Fiorina when I met her in June and I think getting some name recognition will do her good.

DH keeps mentioning her to me and said she is smart and a good speaker.  He thinks the better candidates are in the earlier time slot.  Personally I'm looking forward to the Trump comedy hour tonight. lol

She is smart.  And one of the few women on either side who has managed to not be perceived as A. an idiot B. crazy or C. a bitch.  I think she would make a good VP choice for a Republican ticket.
  • we are going to miss the first debate because of work, but MIL is going to tape it so I hope to watch a bit of it before the 2nd debate starts.

  • I'm taping it!  I just called my husband to set the DVR lol.

Is it weird I feel nervous?  If Trump comes out well, I'm going to cry.
  • Trump did not come out well at all. At the start of the debate the candidates were asked to pledge that they would not run as independents. Trump was the only one not to pledge this and even said that he's not making any promises. Also, Megyn Kelly, one of the debate mods, got on Trump about his misogynistic remarks in the past. Trump defended himself. He was grilled about the 4 times his company filed bankruptcy. And, he was grilled about whether or not he is really a republican. Basically, Trump is NOT a republican. I think people should be VERY distrusting of Trump. Everything he said is about himself and for himself. He admits having used the US laws to advance himself and he doesn't care if he's rude, mean, or wrong. Hubris. That's the word that comes to mind with Trump.

Carson was a flop. I hate saying that, but it's accurate. This is also not totally his fault. Of all the candidates, he was given the fewest chances to speak by the moderators. He MAYBE spoke for 4 minutes total, which is pretty darn bad.

Huckabee always does well, but he's very pie in the sky. Paul is good, but he's kind of a weasel. Going off of tonight alone, I think of them all, the ones that have what's needed to REALLY reform Washington and fix what's broken here in the USA are Kasich, Walker, Cruz, or Bush (I hate saying that about Bush, but he has done a great job in FL). I make this last remark going based on their track records, as they were shared this evening.

Lastly, Carly debated in the 5pm EST debate and was the winner. So, she's one to watch. I rescind my previous commentary about the lower tier candidates dropping out. Carly may end up being the VP nomination...but I'm not sure about her as the presidential nomination.

  • I think you might be too close to the Caron thing, @MommyLiberty5013.  I wasn't impressed with him before, but I thought he came off quite strong and I think this will give him a nice boost.  I am still confident he's a long shot, but I think he won people over tonight.

Trump... such a tool.  I think (hope) people saw that tonight.

I was disappointed in Walker.  He died for me tonight.  So damn dull.

I thought Bush also died.  Fell completely flat.  Said nothing important, couldn't defend his record, and seemed scared.

My surprised likes were: Kasich and Christy

I always liked Paul and Cruz, but I doubt I'll vote for either.  Too fringe.
  • Oh and Huckabee... he debates well, no doubt.  He makes tons of sense for me until he gets on the social issues and then I just want to *face palm*

I thought Rubio had some good moments.  He debated well.  I just don't think he has the right personality for popularity.  Also, his wife is such a barbie doll and sounds like an idiot.  The spouse doesn't matter to me, but it does to a lot of people.

Well, that's good to know about Carson. I wasn't impressed tonight, and I usually am by Carson. I really like the Huckster personality-wise. Walker was a dud - you're right. I was surprised by Christie's and Kasich's records. Especially Kasich's. I learned stuff about Bush tonight that I didn't know, but he's too tainted due to bro and dada. Trump - was a wild card for me. I mean I didn't like him to begin with, but I was leaving an open mind. Nope. My mind is shut tight against him for a few reasons 1. That his company has filed bankruptcy 4 times. 2. He openly admitted to donated to the Clintons as well as other politicians including Republicans and does so for favors down the road. 3. Got attacked by Megyn Kelly for being a misogynist. 4. Refused to pledge to support the Republican party if he doesn't get the nomination.
  • After watching the debates I am no longer sold on Trump.

My least favorites in the second debate were Paul Rand and Scott Walker.

I was super impressed by John Kasich, Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz and Christie. I feel most comfortable with any of these guys running the country.  Oh and Carly! I thought she performed well.

I also liked Rubio and Carson very much but don't think they will make it for some reason. I feel the same about Mike Huckabee.
  • I am ELATED that Trump sunk like a sack of potatoes!  I feel major relief.

I like Cruz. I didn't know much about him until now. But, he did really well and I think he has an impressive record. I hope that we will get to see/hear more of Carly. Hopefully, Trump and others will lose standing in the polls and Carly will rise up into the next tier.

I checked out Carson's FB page last night. He got 100,000 new friends during the debate time. And, he had over 400,000 tweets on Twitter, which made him the most discussed candidate of the evening. Carson definitely has a grass roots movement going for him.

So when are the next debates? How many candidates will they permit?

  • Things I learned about trump last night - he will probably run as an independent like we predicted, he says horrible things about women, he paid Hillary to come to his wedding, and he makes Rand Paul feisty.  lol

I still haven't found the person I"m really sold by.  I missed the first debate but MIL told me that Carly blew everyone out of the water so I need to learn more about her.

Carly did blow everyone out of the water, but honestly, she was the only one not sleeping on that stage.   The rest of them were so nervous they couldn't get a full sentence out.  She's on her game.  I saw pre-debate backstage photos and all the men from both debates were running around in jeans and she was in a suit already.  If she's going to be taken seriously as a woman, she needs to be on her game at all times, and I think she is.  When I met her, she seemed hyper aware about how easily women, especially Republican women, are twisted into crazy idiots in the media and she is out to make sure she is always 100% serious.

I'm pissed that Trump is basically holding a gun to the RNC's head.  If we don't make him our nominee, he's going to run independently so that no one else can win.  Such a douche bag.  I think they only way to ensure he doesn't run independently when the time comes is to ensure him a cabinet post of some other bribe.  He likes people who do him favors.
  • Next debate is going to be run identically to this one.  It's on September 16th on CNN in CA.  I hope Fiorina makes the top 10 this time and I think she will.  I think Kasich is going to sink just enough to be replaced in the top 10.  That's my political prediction.

I will hope they have this to watch online cause we don't have cable.  I just don't feel any of the GOPs I saw last night were strong enough to take on Hillary and Trump is just a Douche.  Jeb seems a bit nervous and stubbled on some of his wording last night.

I have a question - who mentioned prostitutes and pimps?  DD was interrupting me and I couldn't hear it all.  What was the point of that statement?

  • I believe the prostitute comment was Huckabee.  Like I said, he gets on social issues and I want to *face palm*.  I kept interrupting myself (I like to yell at the TV) so I missed the context too.

Bush... wow... the more I think about it the more I can't understand how he ever was elected governor.  He is so unpolished, it's ridiculous.  He looked like he was going to pee his pants and acted like it too.

I was pleasantly surprised actually.  I think there were quite a few good choices.  For me right now, it's Carson, Christie, and Fiorina.  I put myself on their mailing lists last night and I am going to try and see them in person.

The "pimps and prostitutes" comment was the Huckster. It was actually a good comment. His position is that everyone owes taxes across the board, even those doing illegal activities (who aren't taxed on income b/c their income is illegal and therefore not reported) by way of a CONSUMPTION TAX versus an income tax. He wants to do away with income tax and do consumption tax to fund SS and Medicaid. Link here to comment:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgWp39Xmqh4
  • I do taxes and my boss used to do a return every year for a prostitue. She was more scared of the IRS than the police. Her return said escort or entertainer, not prostitute. I am more of a liberal, but I can not stand Clinton, so I am interested in the Republicans this time around. As a left leaning moderate, I liked Kasich, Christie, Carson. Cruz and Huxkabee make me want to poke my eyes out with dull instruments. If Bush wasn't related to GW, I would be in his corner. Trump will fl

Interesting.  Bush is pretty middle of the road, but so was his brother and father.  Do you realize that?  I feel like people got so wrapped up in GW bashing, that they failed to realize what they originally liked about him, i.e., what Jebb is now.

Part of me likes Christie because I think he has mass appeal, so your comments were interesting to read.  Carson is pretty right, not in a religious way like Huckabee or Cruz, but in an strong economic way.
  • I heard GW Bush speak during the 2000 campaign. We had something like a 400 million dollar surplus (I don't remember the number of zeroes) at the time. In his speech, he was talking about giving money to this and that and by the time he was done, he spent 600 million. I pointed this out to my mom, and she said don't worry, he's on a roll. Like in Animal House when Bluto says the Nazis attacked Pearl Harbor. He has my vote for worst president in history. Two wars with a tax decrease? Winner! I want to like Jeb, but I can't get past his last name.

I'm just saying they are pretty much one and the same and I can't understand how people don't see that.  They are very hardly fiscal conservatives.

I can't get past his first name either.  I hear the banjos from Deliverance.

I know, I know...not a reason to dislike a candidate.  But there it is.  It also doesn't help that I hate and despise his brother, GW.  Though I somewhat liked their father.  Also all reasons that shouldn't matter as to why I like/dislike a candidate...but I just can't shake the affiliation.
