GOP Debate Review

Well, this is becoming increasingly difficult for me having been a staunch Carson supporter. I'm really liking what I saw and heard from Carly Fiorina and Ted Cruz tonight. I thought both had great points. Of all, I think Carly had the best answers and she had the most detailed responses for plans moving ahead for what she would actually do in office. A lot of the other people just rambled on about how bad things are. She provided literal solutions.

After tonight I think top contenders will be Fiorina, Trump, Carson, Cruz, and Rubio. Not sure about the order though.

Re: GOP Debate Review

  • I missed all but the last 40 minutes of the debate so I can't contribute much.  A lot of it did seem like talking points and rambling.  I would like to actually hear what they plan to do while in office and I also wish they were asked what they would to about obamacare.  You always hear about how they will repeal it but what would they replace it with.

  • Trump got really quiet when the conversation turned to substance.  I think he was contemplating and realizing he needed to do more research.  I thought the same of Carson, but I wasn't happy about him dying off.

I thought everyone came to fight though.  Cruz seemed a little extreme this time around.  I thought he bordered on wacko a few times.

Rubio perked up a bit.  He's back on my short list of people to meet.  He seemed to scared at the last debate that I thought he just didn't have it in him.

Christie had a much better night, but he's still not the best debater.

Carly is at the top of my list as of tonight.  She's on it 100% and so intensely prepared with real answers.
  • I still like John Kasich and I want to hear more from him. While I disagree with him, I thought Ben Carson made good points. Paul came off a bit snarky. Huckabee and Cruz are whack jobs. I will surprised if Carly doesn't make some jumps in the polls. Don't forget, I am a left leaning moderate so I am not sure this is my circus or my monkeys
  • So I youtubed Carly's response of PP last night because I missed most of the debate.  See seems to always be on point and have a plan of some sort which Trump does not.  I think she may rise now above him and he may start to fade.  I do like her.  It would be fun watching a debate between her and hilary.

I think he is really passionate about the Constitution and defending it - plus he has a great success record of doing so. He is intense, for sure. But I would take his beat of intensity over Trump's banal, repeated "we will make USA better" any day (meanwhile providing NO concrete plans). Cruz has a literal fight in him.

I actually like the Huckster's personality. I think he knows he won't win, but I think he continues to add in-put and have a legitimate voice. Plus, I DO enjoy listening to any candidate who wants to get rid of the IRS and simplifying the tax codes.

Cruz comes off as wacko when you compare him to a tame and boring Bush or Walker. He is passionate.

This. It's not about lime light anymore. It's about true substance.
  • Having slept on it, while Trump was still his old self, I think this may have been the beginning of the end for him.  I don't think he's going to fall quickly, but this is going to part of a slow decline unless he gets his act together and researches the facts, and honestly, I don't think he's capable of doing so.

Cruz is passionate.  He has a straight line of thinking and like I've said before, he has a good moral character, but the same reasons why I like him are the reasons I don't like him.

Huckabee is probably the best debater I've ever seen, but he's really good at pretending to be a nice guy, when in actuality, he isn't.  He's shown his colors before.  I will never forget his 2008 campaign.  He got really far and he was so horrible to Romney.  The way Huckabee treated Romney was with pure, hate, and it wasn't necessary.  The only reason I could figure for his treatment of Romney in particular would be the religion issue and if he's going to hate on someone like that because they're Mormon, he's not ok in my book.

Over all, I thought they all did well actually.  I'd feel comfortable with any of them as president besides Trump.

Re: The Huckster. I thought it ironic that he was discussing health issues and fixing them, when he actually looks quite unhealthy. Christie looked healthier than him.
