Moving rental help?

We'll be moving from Wisconsin to Texas in late January, and while most of the moving expenses are taken care of with my job, we're responsible for renting a little trailer behind the car with important things.

I'm not sure where else I can really look for pull-behind trailers besides UHaul...and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed looking at websites.

Any helpful ideas or hints would be lovely.

Thanks!

I would probably just go with U Haul. They aren't cheap, but have a good infrastructure for state to state moves. You could also look into those pod systems, but they are supposedly super pricy.
  • I actually used a big U-Haul truck when I moved cross country and towed my car behind it.  So, while I can't speak about their trailers, I liked using them.  I also used one of their small vans for an in-town move.  I don't think I've ever owned a car that I could have towed ANYTHING behind, lol.

One surprising suggestion, call around to different U-Haul locations near you.  When I made my big move, I happened to be almost directly between two locations for the start of my voyage.  Each one was about 45 minutes away from me, in opposite directions.  I kid you not, for the exact same vehicle, it was half the cost at one location over the other.

I used a pod system from UBF, called Upack ReloCube.  They're smaller than the PODS at 8'x7'x6' (so perfect for a smaller bunch of stuff), and also way cheaper.  3 years ago, I paid just under $1500 for one "box" to go from California to Colorado.  A U-Haul truck would have cost about that same price once you factor in gas.  My car at the time was a Honda Accord that got 34mpg, so I couldn't pull a trailer, and even now with an SUV, I would look at doing a cube again because of the costs involved w/ gas when you tow.  This is their site: http://www.upack.com/moving-services/moving-container-size.asp

ETA: I just saw you're doing the drive in January.  I wouldn't want to be pulling a trailer if I happened to end up in snow/ice.
