Twilight Related: Stepanie's new book

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/10/06/stephenie-meyer-swaps-twilight-leads-genders-10th-anniversary-bonus-story

Thoughts?  Oddly, I was just thinking about Midnight Sun this morning.  I'm not sure why.  I kind of want to start other thread about Twilight, but there's not much traffic these days so I don't know if it's worth it.

  • I loved Twilight, but I have no desire to read that. I'm just so done with her. I am also irritated that the character is named Beau, which is my DS's name. I seriously hope that the name Beau doesn't become hugely popular the way that the previous Twilight character names did.

  • I'm totally going to read this. :) I think it sounds fun and interesting. If this is what she found fulfilling as an artist, it's her life to live.

Also, I am seriously IMPRESSED that this wasn't leaked early.

  • Yea, I don't think I'm going to read it.  I mean, if someone dropped it my lap maybe, but I think I'm done.

The other post I was going to make was how we all feel about Twilight now.  I mean, many of us admit starting to post here because we read the book.  I LOVED them when I read them.  Now? I can't really even stomach them.  I feel a little bad about that, I'm not sure why.  Maybe I feel like it should hold a place for me because it rekindled my childhood love of reading? That I owe Twilight for the hundreds of books I've read since then? But really, I just want throw a pie at her face.

Between the Midnight Sun fiasco, a novella about a character nobody cared about, insisting the final book be TWO movies, I am DONE.

This is EXACTLY what she is doing.

If rehashing existing characters is what she finds fulfilling, that's great for her. Doesn't mean I have any interest whatsoever in giving her my money for it.

    Big fat NOPE from me.

She's gender swapping everyone? Jacob? Mr. Shirtless? Squee! This one will at least have some boobies!

  • And will she keep doing this?! Will Boybella (Beau?) get pregnant? I'm actually laughing out loud.

I enjoyed the first three books because it reminded me what it was like to be a swoony teenager. Good on her for that.

If she wants to write more about these characters or try to create a swoony-boy Bella knock-off, that's her prerogative. I'm not interested in reading a lot of authors, and I'm not really interested in reading more of her books after:

This. I guess she blew all the money from the other books and needed a new infusion.

    (stuck in the box)
I wholeheartedly agree with both of these.  I have no interest in re-reading Twilight, and similarly no interest in reading it with the characters' genders swapped.  There are too many other great swoony teenager books out there that I haven't read yet.

  • I wish we could get the venomous spooge thread back. Seems appropriate for this.

  • I realize that I'm beating a dead horse, but I think this whole gender swap thing is more about her ginormous ego than anything else. We all know that she finished Midnight Sun a long time ago, and takes some sort of weird pleasure in keeping everyone hanging.

She's attempting to remain relevant and cool, but as per usual she Stephenie Meyers it all up by being convoluted and ridiculous. The book isn't even a re-imagining, I read a sample and it's the EXACT same story and dialogue, just everyone who was male is now female and vice versa.

  • Is it even a finished book? Or is it a Midnight Sun half book?

  • Is it even a finished book? Or is it a Midnight Sun half book?

Well, it's published and existing out in the wild. I guess that makes it technically finished.

@pinkybooklover09 Soooooo...she basically hit CTRL+H a bunch of times and WHAMMO BAMMO - NEW BOOK!

If only that worked in real life. Then we'd all be rich.

  • @pinkybooklover09, It's my theory that she hasn't finished Midnight Sun. I think she took too much time away from it, and now she's lost her connection to the characters and their world. (The same thing happened to me. Every time I sit down to write the fourth Sultry Springs book, I draw a blank. The poor, puny word doc still consists the same three chapters I wrote two years ago to fulfill the option clause in my contract.)

Anyway, I hope I'm wrong and that she publishes MS someday, because I really want to read it. I just don't have any interest in a gender swapped Twilight. :(
