NBR: Remakes

This topic may have been discussed in the past so I apologize for the repeat. Anyone have thoughts on these 3 upcoming remakes (or possible remakes)?:

Fuller (Full) House

The Jem Movie

Gilmore Girls on Netflix (is this a real thing?)

I loved GG, still do, although I'm not sure how well it would do. I think I'd settle for a movie just to finally give us closure to the Luke and Lorelei story. I'll go out on a limb and assume Rory did well for herself.

Not too excited for Jem since it's so different than the cartoon, but I'm not fooling myself I'll still see it. I'm just bitter that in 2015 with all the technology we have they can't make a freakin' synergy to make Jem an actual Hologram which was half of the point of the show.

Re: NBR: Remakes

  • I once told DH that in my version of hell, Full House plays 24/7.
  • I loved Jem and Full House. I still refuse to watch the remake of Footloose, so I doubt I will watch those. The remake of The Craft also drives me nuts.

    I think I missed the re-make of the Craft, that's such a same it's a good movie.
  • I am torn. I watched the Dallas remake and actually enjoyed it.

I do not think I will watch Jem, but I may check out Fuller House and I know I will probably end up watching GG because I am a sucker.

  • I watched a couple old episodes of Jem the other day with my daughter and the content was a little...  I didn't remember it being like that.  One episode was the band trying to find a Vietnamese girl's father who was a soldier and left at the end of the war and another was a wedding of one of the bandmates where the bride left the wedding because she was really in love with someone else but only had a wedding because she wanted to be the center of attention.  I totally didn't remember the topics being so heavy or PG.  Maybe it all went over my head.

I honestly probably won't watch any of these, except maybe GG, because I didn't watch the series the first time around and it's on my NetFlix binge list.  When I get around to it I'll watch the new ones too.

  • Did not know they remade The Craft. In general, I don't like most remakes. I don't see the need for them. Although I did like the 1994 version of Little Women. Gilmore Girls is supposed to be just 4, 90 min "movies". I'm interested to catch up with Luke and Lorelei and with Sookie & Jackson's family.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

I'm just really glad they are bring back Sherman-Palladino for the writing. Season 7 wasn't very good without her. I hope we have a more satisfying ending to the series. I'll miss Sooki if Melissa doesn't come back - in fact, I can't even imagine the show without Sooki. And of course, Mr. Gilmore has passed away. I always loved the Richard-Rory storylines.

  • Looking back the Jem story line of her cheating on her boyfriend...with herself was kind of weird. No matter who he was with it's not a good message to promote cheating to kids.

I can't imagine GG without Sookie either and I'll miss Grandpa Gilmore, he had a lot of great one liners.

That's funny because I don't remember any of this about Jem. I just remember loving their hair & outfits and that they had a cool band. Kimber was my fav.

  • Unfortunately, nostalgia sells. Look at all the fuss people made over Back to the Future's anniversary even though it's been 2015 for 10 months now.

I will probably watch Gilmore Girls because I thought the last season was awful and hated how it ended. I don't even care if Lorelai and Luke ended up together or whatever, I just want to revisit the Stars Hollow I fell in love with back in 2007.

I am not all that pressed about Fuller House. My daughter has recently fell in love with FH reruns, and so we may end up watching it together like we do with Girl Meets World, but I find Candace Cameron Bure so loathsome as a person now, I don't know that I would be able to watch it without scoffing.

I would like to see some original ideas make it to our television and movie screens some time soon. Everything is a remake and not all of them are things we need to see again.
