Thanksgiving

Who is getting excited?! Anybody hosting? What are your favorite Thanksgiving recipes? Trying anything new this year?

Re: Thanksgiving

  • I'm getting excited too. I saw a recipe on pinterest that involved rubbing mayonaisse on the turkey skin that looks interesting. I sometimes use mayonaisse instead of butter and I am curious to see if this would make the skin extra crispy and give the turkey a little bit of tang. Might experiment before the big show.
  • Hmmm, I've never tried mayonnaise on the turkey skin. Interesting! You'll have to report back if you try it!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Its all about family and food! =)

My favorite turkey recipe is the maple-cider brined turkey with bourbon-cider gravy from Cooking Light. It is soooooo good!
  • I MIGHT be hosting.  It's super up in the air.  We always go to a family friend's house, but she just had both hips replaced this week.  Before the surgery, she said it would still be easier to have it at her house, but my mom and I will do a lot of the cooking.  Her husband will still make the turkey.  But she's had a rougher recovery so far, so I've been offering to do it at my house.  We'll see.

Either way, I'll be cooking all the side dishes.  My mom is doing desserts and apps.

I will make a sweet potato casserole and mashed potatoes, but I can't think of a green vegetable that I want to make.  Any thoughts?
  • Not really green but roasted acorn squash
    ?
  • I made this brussles sprouts recipe for Christmas last year and it was really good. People loved it!

  • I'm for sure not hosting. I don't even know where we are going for Thanksgiving this year. We have always been with my parents, but I live 13.5 hours away from them now. We have been invited to BIL and SIL's (about 2 hours away), and the ILs will be there too. We have also been invited to H's Aunt's house (about 3 hours away -opposite direction) to have Thanksgiving with his Grandmother. I'm not sure what to do!
