Has anyone else seen Dark Places?

I read the book a while back and I watched the movie this past week. Did anyone else see it? What did you think?

  • OMG, how did I forget about this!?  I added myself to the hold list at the library, but it's probably going to take months for mine to come up.  :(

Anyone know if it's streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime?

@sassypants527, did you like it?  I thought the previews for it looked fantastic.
  • I've been on the hold list at the library for it forever.  I think I'm #11 now so it'll be a while before I get to watch it.

Aaaaand now I feel like an idiot.... @SusieBW it's free on Amazon Prime.

I got it from Netflix but not sure if it streams. I liked it ok. Charlize Theron did a great job, but the modern day parts of the story felt a little compacted and rushed.

  • @SusieBW I rented it in Redbox a couple weeks ago. DH & I watched it. I read the book and he didn't. We both liked it though. I thought Gillian Flynn made Libby a more unlikable character in her book than the character was on screen.

  • It was available as an early release on Direct TV a couple months ago so I watched it then. It was okay, I definitely enjoyed the book more.

I'm hoping I can get DH to watch it with me tonight.

But just from the book, I don't remember Libby being completely unlikeable.  Not like every single character in Gone Girl, anyway.

I usually prefer the book character because they tend to be more nuanced than their film counterparts, but I do prefer the film Practical Magic because Sally is much more likable than her book counterpart.
