USMC ball- short dress or no?!

This is my first time going to the Marine Corps Ball so I'm not exactly sure what to expect. I have a long dress I was planning on wearing, which is white and very pretty. However, I bought this super gorgeous short red dress and I absolutely love it. My fiancé thinks I should wear the short one but I'm so torn! Is it formal enough? I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb!

Re: USMC ball- short dress or no?!

  • Don't wear it. It's not formal enough. You will stick out. The shortest you should go when they're in alphas is cocktail length. But even then, it's more appropriate to go cocktail length when he's in bravos. And honestly, that's a cute dress, for date night, not an official function. A lot of units have started putting out that they don't want people in short dresses at all.
I've seen a lot of military surprise homecomings. It wouldn't work on me. I always have my back to the corner and my face to the door. Looking for terrorists, criminals, various other threats, and husbands.
  • I agree.  It's too short and shows too much for a formal event.  Not appropriate.
