Hello, all!
I'm looking at setting up a little craft room in a spare closet. I sell space themed jewelry on Etsy, so I need a dedicated little place to work. Right now, with no dedicated space, I'm working out of a tackle box on the dining room table, and it's just always a mess... So after a pinterest search of closet craft rooms, I'm ready to get started. I definitely wanted to take advantage of as much vertical space as possible, ideally via floating shelves, but if I have to go with brackets, I will.
At this point, I'm looking at simple white shelves attached to the wall. Nothing complicated, nothing fancy, just a flat rectangle stuck to the wall. Since we'll still be recovering from closing costs, we're definitely on a tight budget, but I don't want to get poor quality for the sake of cheapness. I don't need anything fancy or pretty, just well made and functional.
My question is this, When it comes to form and function, will it be substantially cheaper to build these shelves, bracket and a cut board from home depot (or wherever) and then paint them, or will it be about the same or only slightly more expensive to purchase pre-made shelves? If I do buy shelves, where's the best place to get them? I looked at Walmart and Target, but they mostly seem to have fancier things with trim and cubbies and stuff, and I really just want flat planes.
Thanks so much for the advice!!
