You guys- I sat next to 2 Time Magazine reporters today

At my favorite lunch place.  I overheard them talking and I assumed they were here working for a candidate so I started talking to them.

Both of them were fairly conservative and they gave me some interesting insight.

1. I asked why there aren't more negative Trump ads and why no one is really calling him out on his shit.  The one guy said he has listened to focus groups where they were trying to gather information to use in attack ads, but everyone time they said anything negative about Trump, more people liked him.  WHAT?!

2. The one guy says "most people feel exactly like you do.  That if it comes down to Trump and Hilary, they're sunk".  I said, "But they're both going to win, so obviously there are plenty of people who like one of them."  He says "But think.  A grumpy old man from Vermont who has done absolutely nothing with his years in the Senate and who is a confirmed socialist is giving Hilary a run for her money... no one likes her that much, she just may end up being the lesser of two evils, despite the party forcing her down everyone's throat.  Then there's Trump who is actually only going to win by a small percentage, but he will win because he's in such a large field.  And the people who vote for him are his only supporters, everyone else hates him."

It was an interesting perspective.

They found me fascinating and were convinced I must work in politics because I follow it so closely.  I was like "no it's just an unhealthy hobby."

They weren't actually saying that.  They were just saying that it's sad that a candidate like Bernie could give her a run for her money even though she is the obvious front runner choice because she's just that bad.  And they actually weren't convinced Trump was going to win.  They said a lot of his supporters don't vote a lot and that it was one thing to "flirt with Trump" but another to go privately into a booth and actually vote for him.  They seemed to be holding out hope.
  • ^All we can do is have hope. Thank you for sharing. I agree Hilary is awful and I think it's a big mistake for the DMC to have chosen her to back. Did you guys know that the next Dem debate is on Sunday. The DNC is trying to hide the candidates so no one changes their minds about voting for Hilary.

  • I know right!  I realized that I haven't gotten a chance to watch them because of the strange timing.  The last one was not only on a Saturday, but it didn't start until 10 pm!!!

Oh I know but it's frightening if you actually think about it happening.

  • It's extremely frightening.  I'm way too worked up about that possibility.
  • Yeah I don't know about that.  In another thread I posted a link that shows every single poll that's come out for the past 6 weeks.  If anyone is losing their lead, it's actually Bernie here in NH.  He's no shoo-in here like I thought. She's still running over him in SC.  It's only Iowa that he's caught up to her a little, but mostly, she still ahead.
