Because we talk too much about Trump - Hilary
Theres an update on her email scandal. Link Below
I think she won't stop running and will somehow get the D Nom. DH on the other hand thinks towards the summertime she will drop out of the race for "health reasons" and Biden will squeeze in - He says she is running just to take the news off of her email scandal.. Me - I won't vote for trump or hilary.
Re: Because we talk too much about Trump - Hilary
Hillary....LOTUS...... LIAR OF THE UNITED STATES lol
I like Bernie but he needs to take basic economics.
Well said. Exactly how I feel!
Like @catsareniice1 and @vlagrl29 mentioned, I like that he seems honest and that he genuinely wants to do what he thinks is best for the country...not necessarily what is best for his own personal popularity.
"A politician thinks of the next election. A statesman thinks of the next generation." Whether he is right or wrong...and, alas, I think he's wrong...he is at least thinking of the next generation. And I admire and respect that.
I also do agree with some of his policies "as is". And some of his policies if we lived in a perfect world, but the money isn't there so they can't and shouldn't happen. I lean more toward socialism than probably the average American. But I certainly recognize it seems to have gone too far in some European countries and we don't want to end up in the same boat.
I was just mentioning to my H the other day that pretty much everyone in the U.S. agrees there should be some social programs and some safety net...heck, if you think about it, public education is a social program. But there is a line where it crosses from benefitting our society as a whole to being detrimental to our society. However, every single citizen probably has a different opinion of where that "line" is, lol. And that's the debate. That's the treading water carefully.
I agree with this. I like social programs to an extent. They are needed in circumstances like SS and unemployment. God forbid dh and I couldn't work. I would want food stamps as well.
Not only was SS supposed to be a voluntary savings account, it was meant to be a buffer to retirement savings, not to encompass ALL of someone's retirement savings.
Yes, socialism and communism are very close relatives. And, we have real historical proof that both fail when it comes to running nations.
Speaking of SS, that is a hot button issue for me. While I understand why it was started and can see the positives, I hate and cannot stand the way the program runs because it so often robs people of their money and gives nothing back.
Let me give an example from my own life. I have a serious medical condition. It is unlikely I will live to 65. So, what happens to the s**loads of money I've put into the system over my lifetime if I don't live long enough to collect any of it? It just disappears into the system with not even one dime of it being a benefit to either myself or my heirs. How is that fair? Trust me. That SS money I will never get, would sure come in handy RIGHT NOW to help me pay for the $400/month in prescriptions/dr. visits I have that neither my insurance (high deductible plan) nor the government pay for.
In my world, SS would morph into a system where people are still forced to put aside money to supplement their retirement...but it would always be THEIR money. In THEIR account. That they can't withdraw, but can manage. And, in the event of anyone having an untimely death before their retirement, that money than becomes part of their estate.
I've never thought of this but it makes total sense to me. This would be more beneficial and the govt couldn't bankrupt it.
This is a good point also. For decades, the SS admin. had a surplus because all the working baby boomers far surpassed the number of retired people. But, over the years, those surpluses continually got raided by other government programs and agencies.
Now that lack of foresight is coming home to roost as we enter the long stretch of boomers retiring. With every passing year, it is the double edged sword of more people receiving SS with fewer people working to support it.
You'd think the government would have realized that all the surplus was coming from a generation that would one day be wanting their money back.
As a millennial, I've been told my whole life that I will never get my SS money back. It's just another tax out of my paycheck.
