Should I consult an oncologist before I proceed with the treatment?

Hi.. I have had hemangiomas since I was a baby. The lump is near my forehead. Now I am 20 and still it hasn’t disappeared. While researching more about my problem, I found that the lump scarring will slowly disappear at the age of 10. But now I am worried. I am considering a laser skin resurfacing  in Beauti-med, Port Coquitlam. But I am worried. Is hemangiomas cancerous? Should I consult an oncologist before I proceed with the treatment? Or is it normal? Kindly advice.

Re: Should I consult an oncologist before I proceed with the treatment?

  • I would consult with a medical dermatologist. My guess is that they would want to take a sampling of the skin in that area to send it to a lab to test for cancer. Then if it's cancerous you they would probably refer you to an oncologist & if it's not give you the ok to go ahead with the procedure. I would guess if you go straight to an oncologist they would do the same thing, sample sent in for testing.
