Dog has to pee in the middle of the night EVERY night

My husband and I adopted a dog last year, and she is house trained. She gets us every time she needs to go out and we can leave her all day while we are at work, without any accidents. But at night, she wakes us up between 1 and 4am, to take her out to pee. We take her every night before bed, and every morning when we first wake up. My husband doesn't think the middle of the night bathroom breaks are a problem, but it takes me forever to fall back asleep, so I'm exhausted every morning. I have suggested we leave her in the kitchen so she can't wake us up, as she can obviously hold it all day, so all night shouldn't be a problem. I have also suggested we remove her water before we go to bed, but he thinks both of those options will make her think she is being punished. What can we do to get her on a schedule?

That seems odd. I suspect it is just a habit she got into and now her body wants to pee between 1-4AM, because that is one of her "times".
For my dog, she wouldn't view having her water bowl removed at night as a punishment. She probably wouldn't even notice. However, she would be a seriously sad girl if we didn't let her stay in the bedroom. She would definitely view that as a punishment.
Could you all get one of those potty pads? Then, when she wants to pee in the middle of the night, direct her to the potty pad. I suspect after using the potty pad a few times...or at least having it be made clear she is no longer going outside at that time...her body will get used to the new schedule and she probably won't need to pee at that time at all anymore.
Make sure she gets a lot of exercise during the day. She will sleep like a rock all night.:)
