NH

Yikes, it was a rough night for me.  I went to the Rubio rally expecting a sure-thing second place finish... 5th?  Stunning that one exchange in a debate could be that momentous.  Christie dealt a fatal blow to Rubio... and himself.  Rubio is going to need to do something major to turn this around.

I hoped for clarity to come out of NH, but instead, it simply made the game more confusing, which is how it often goes in NH.  Kasich campaigned hard here and got our independent voters.  He did a great job.  I've been very critical of him in the past, but he could be electable and I think he could be a decent leader.  I worry that this was a fluke however.  He has no money and will be moving on to other states on a shoestring budget and so far he and Bush (who also did better than expected in NH) have dismal numbers in future states and would have to make up a lot of ground.

If Rubio was dealt a fatal blow and he's out of the picture, I'm scared that there is no one to stop Trump.  Like I said before, all Christie did on Saturday was help Trump, not himself.

Rubio's concession speech made me like him more.  He was incredibly humble and admitted to messing this up and apologized for his poor performance.  Made the whole thing more sad.

The highlights of the night was I got you guys some fun pictures of some of the media set ups in the same wing of the building with the Rubio rally.  I also got a picture of Vermin Supreme (google him).

I also got interviewed by a lot of European press, which was interesting.  They know way more about us, our politics, society, and history then we know about them, that's for sure.  One Danish reporter interviewed me for almost 20 minutes, then just decided to talk to me off camera.  She said that Denmark and many other European nations are currently being controlled by parties with people very much like Trump.  Nationalists who pretend to be in the right wing, but really aren't and just play on the fears of the people.  I fear for a world controlled by Trumps.

Re: NH

  • ^^^ I am so sad for Rubio. His apology came up on my feed last night. I think the difference between his response and Trump's response speaks volumes. Rubio's was "this was my fault. I screwed it up." and Trump's was, "The Iowans didn't give me a fair shot and it's their fault." I also think it's BS that his trip up in 1 debate affected him so badly. He was considered one of the "winners" in every other debate. Jeb and Christie have had multiple bad debates.

Also, isn't Denmark the country Bernie wants to model us after?  Are Bernie and Trump really kind of the same?

  • I'm sad for Rubio too - I had heard he recently repeated himself again when talking about something else.  I always felt he was all about the talking points and that's why I never got into him.

I think Bernie is the Dem Trump - if you think about it they are both passionate and don't really lay out plans - Trump is always talking about how America will be great again and Bernie is always talking about this political revolution.

Cruz scares me though and I can't quite place why.  I still feel this is a really weird election cycle.

Yes, the Danish woman thought this was ironic as well!

Rubio really doesn't have more taking points than any other candidate. I'm not sure exactly to what you are referring, but I've seen him multiple times and he never uses notes or a teleprompter and makes beautiful speeches with lines I've never heard him use before or since.  He also answers questions clearly and directly.  This is the only line of attack against him because it's the only thing they can really find to attack him on.  People long thought his smooth way of speaking must be practiced, but it is who he is.  The other candidates caught on that this was a weakness in the public's eyes and have blown it out of proportion.

Cruz is seeming like such a slime ball.  I'm disappointed.  While I didn't agree with him on a lot, I thought he was a man of principle, but it's looking like he's pretty ruthless.

I'm curious to what things that he's done recently that makes you think he's slimy? I agree with you, and I know he sent out those voting shaming letters and the whole Carson thing. The thing that turns me off of him most is the way he uses religion to forward his political agenda. I'm all for our President talking about their faith, but Cruz seems to take it to another level that feels wrong.
  • Just ask Howard Dean how one weird comment/noise can blow up a campaign. It sucks that that is what it can come to, but it is the reality

I was really young when this happened so I just looked it up. Funny how Trump has done so much worse than this...

He's a slime ball because of the things you just stated.  I hate that that underhanded bull.  It's slimy to me. Also, there was scandal here in NH where Cruz claimed some state reps had endorsed him and they claimed they didn't and kept asking for a retraction, but Cruz camp kept "forgetting" to retract it.
  • But Dean was already fading when he screamed... that's why he was screaming... slightly different
  • The scream happened after he came in third in Iowa. Then he lost NH. Sound familiar?

Me too! I said that to my left of left husband and he was not happy.  But i think that they are both too far off to be good for office.
  • Here's a very interesting statistic.  Here in NH those who voted for Trump, their first second choice was Bernie and those who voted for Sanders, their first second choice was Trump.  You see, the political spectrum isn't a line- it's a circle.  The extremes of both sides meet.
