Opinions on my thesis statement!
I am trying to come up with a thesis statement that will allow me to cover a few of Frederick Douglass's works within an 8-10 page term paper. My professor said that she feared I was going with a too much of a wide scope before so I have reworked a new thesis in hopes that it gives me a more direct approach to my research. The foremost source of my research will be Frederick Douglass's Narrative, supplemented by a speech or two of his and a couple of secondary sources that analyze Douglass's writings and speeches.
So my new thesis statement is the following: Frederick Douglass was an intricate part of the abolitionist movement. Douglass’s purpose, through both his writings and speeches, was to inform readers and listeners of the cruelty of slavery and to persuade those same readers and listeners to support the cause of the abolition movement.
Any advice and opinions are appreciated. Also, thanks in advance since this is my first discussion post here.
