Advice for a Living Room Refresh

Hi there!

New to the forums, but desperately trying to refresh our main living space and struggling with solidifying the new color palette. Just got a new ivory and gray rug to infuse some light into the space as our old rug was very dark in color and our couch is so dark in color (as is our reclaimed wood dining table in the attached dining room). I wanted to switch to a blues, grays, and golds color palette, but I feel like I can't figure it out. I have attached a photo with the new rug.

I am basically looking for advice on how to really bring this color scheme together and make it great. As it stands, I am wholly unimpressed. I know part of the problem is needing new throw pillows as there seems to be too much beige like colors happening here...but what colors/textures? Would love some input on making this room cohesive! :)

Re: Advice for a Living Room Refresh

  • your room is lovely! what's the view from the couch? If you have the space I would probably move that copper side table to the other side of the couch and add in a couple of nice chairs and a coffee table. I don't think color is why it feels unfinished - I think it needs more furniture.
  • It used to have a vintage trunk as a coffee table, but we moved it out so our son could run around more freely in the space. However, I'm not at all opposed to getting one...though I'm not sure what color/material with all the mixed metals happening in here...
  • I think everything looks nice, but i think you need color.  A room full of neutrals is difficult to pull off- you need tons of texture to make it look interesting.  Adding a pops of a bright color will pull everything together.

I really need to see all 4 walls before I can give anymore advice.
  • It seems all of the furnishing is suitable to match up with your room. But add one table on the floor will be better.
  • Hey @themillerhomestead,

It's a beautiful room! I would suggest you should go with pastel colors as they are quite light shades and will also brighten up your room.
