I think Brussels has shown us that increased security measures aren't really keeping us any safer. Brussels was on 'high alert' after the Paris attacks, but all of this happens at busy transportation hubs. How can security defend against radicals that are willing to blow themselves up? It's terrifying.

Yes I agree it's quite terrifying. I was lucky enough to travel to Brussels a couple of years ago and it seemed so safe.

Baby showers drive me crazy. I heard someone complain their son and DIL "only got clothes" at their recent shower", then the baby was born (healthy) 9 days early. Apparently he didn't get enough small/newborn clothes. Just be happy you got a gift.

I absolutely would not work if I didn't have to. None of this, "I'd still work or I'd be bored" sh!t.  I might volunteer somewhere, but it would have to be on my terms. Call me lazy, but I work to live, I don't live to work.

I remember when I was in my early to mid twenties I would go to baby showers.  I would probably get something off the registry, and maybe a cute outfit.  It never occurred to me at the time that a 6M summer dress might not fit in the summer on a baby.  I was young, naive and I guess I didn't think it through.  My SIL went on a tirade after her shower how some of these clothes are useless, they won't fit in the winter, OMG they didn't give gifts receipts!  I don't know if I was one of the offending people, but I will never forget it.  One, I check for sizes I think might fit in the right season, but moreso, I will never forget what an absolute BITCH she was about gifts people gave.  So ungrateful.  It has completely change my gift giving strategy for baby showers and every other gift giving event.

Only by working with other women have I learned to think about what size the baby might be at a different time of year, or to buy bigger size clothes since babies grow so fast, but there's no way to know what size the child might be. I don't have kids but if I did I bet they'd be huge as both my husband and I were big babies, what do we be rude and say don't buy 0 to 3 month clothes since they might not fit? Plus baby stuff is super expensive, I'm not buying a crib or carseat if it's not my child, next time I'll just give some money and you can buy the one you want if clothes are such a bad idea.

I also would love to not work. I do enjoy my job a lot, but even part time would be fine. My husband works a rotating schedule and other people in the group have 2nd jobs. I joke with him if he wants to pick up a 2nd job that pays what I make in a standard 5 day week I'm happy to stay home to read, knit and just enjoy the stuff I can't do when I work. Doesn't go over so well.

I'd love to be a housewife.  Not so much a SAHM, because that's a lot of work and frankly, I enjoy the break from my kids sometimes.  But I'd totally be down with being a SAHM without the kids.  LOL!

I was a SAHW for about 2 months when we first moved to SC. It was glorious! The house was spotless. I got tons of reading done. Dinner was on the table. This was before DS came along so it was just me and the two dogs every day. DH actually liked it but we definitely needed the extra income since I am in a higher paying field than DH. 

My UO is that I hate circuses and some zoos. I always feel bad for the animals, unless those animals can't be released back into the wild for whatever reason. Then it doesn't bother me as bad.

I heard Sea World is going to release a bunch of animals, including the Orca's back into the wild. I imagine some of this has to do with the documentary exposing the horrible conditions.

I don't mind the conservation centers. I have a friend who works for the Cincinnati Zoo in their Cheetah conservation program and they do SO much for the preservation of the species.

Totally agree. It's just the whole caging wild animals so people can gawk at them that bugs me. Or making them perform, which is worse, IMO. Rehabilitation and conservation type programs don't bother me.
