Job Update (nothing bad)

I just had an odd thing happen this morning.  I've mentioned in posts here and there that, although I like my coworkers and the company I work for, there have been 3 layoffs in the last 18 months and I don't feel like it is very secure.

This morning, the big boss calls my phone and asks me to come to his office.  Every once in awhile he has a special project he wants me to complete, but I normally don't do work directly for him.  I was definitely thinking, "Uh oh, is today the day?"  He invites me to sit down in a seating area in his office (rather than at his desk) and...key point...he didn't close his door.  I IMMEDIATELY felt relief, lol.

A little background, when I started here 3 years ago I was hired for the Procurement department.  Than, when work there started waning, this same boss had me trained to support work in the Steel Management  department (engineering, though I'm not an engineer).  I've been working in both departments for the last two years.

What he told me today is, since the work in Steel Management is starting to wane, he is moving me into Doc Control because they have a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done.

It's not a promotion and it isn't more money, but it is a lot more job security.  At least for the time being.  Phew!

Plus it also makes me feel good and feel appreciated that, throughout my employment here, he has changed my job duties (as needed) for me to stay employed here.
