Hrm.  Wonder if we need a gardening thread.....lol
I'm in! I will have nothing to contribute as I have zero idea how to garden, but I aspire to have a nice yard and a little veggie patch! I like to blame the yard on the fact that the previous owners totally neglected it, but I've been there for 3 years now and I've neglected it all this time too.......
I've been here 2 1/2 years now.  I have most of it whipped into shape, but it's been a work in progress.  Half of the back border and the right side (as you look at the house) still need MAJOR trimming done.  I've been working my way around the house doing one area at a time and then maintaining what I've already done.  Summers are the worst for me though as I hate the summer time heat/sun.  And with the wife and I both working, it's hard to get stuff done with a toddler around.

My H told me this morning we need to go to one our rental houses on Saturday and trim back some trees.  But, I need to have a further discussion with him about that.  Like a lot of you have mentioned, it is also miserably hot and humid in my area.  I can't hang in that heat for very long!  I'd rather hire it out or, if at all possible, push it off until September.  We'll see.

I didn't say it, but was thinking, "You want me to clear brush...in 93 degree heat and high humidity...excuse me?  Have you met me?, lol."

lol.....yesterday my wife said "I thought you were going to go out and do yard work?"

Um.  It's 93 degrees and humid enough you can swim through it and I'm still sick!

Success!!!  When my H and I went to lunch on Friday I pointed out how hot and miserable it would be to trim trees in July and asked if it could wait until September.  He told me it was no hurry and agreed it would be better to wait for cooler weather.  Phew!

@Xstatic3333, thanks for the info about leaving major tree work for the fall or spring.  I am all for that, when possible!

Our biggest problem is actually how small our yard is - it's so tiny that there isn't much room to rent big tools to help us gut the area so it's all by hand. And the previous owner laid that black weed barrier fabric over the entire backyard and it was ripped in so many places that now we have to dig down and tear it all out. I've been working on doing 20 minutes a night after work lately just to make
some progress. We had one area totally cleared last year and the stupid weeds came back with a vengeance this year!
  • we are going to do some minor landscaping with a stone wall in the front of our house this fall.  I need advice on plants - I should post a photo of what it looks like now.
