Re: Weekend Plans?

  • Friday- not sure yet but maybe yard work, gym, or a bike ride

Saturday- H is golfing in a tournament for work, so I think I'm going to start catching up on my scrap booking. Cleaning the house

Sunday- Gym. My parents will also be coming over for dinner and will help us install a new toilet. Another project down!

  • No plans here really.

Supposed to rain Saturday and the wife works 10-6.  Might take the little one to go see my parents.

Might to yard work a little on Sunday.

  • Fri - early out of work so I will do laundry and clean the house.  My parents are driving in for a weekend visit.  Tonight we will go to the fondue restaurant.

Sat - take mom to get facials and shopping while H takes dad out.

The rest of the weekend isn't planned.  We'll probably go out to eat another time, maybe take a walk for ice cream, possibly go to a play and definitely watch some Olympics.  My parents will leave Monday morning.
  • Woohoo!

Friday - nothing special planned. I'll probably do some light cleaning around the house and cuddle up on the couch to watch a movie.

Saturday - ZOO! There were twin goats born at the zoo near our house so we're taking our niece to go see them. By some miracle our library's zoo pass was available for tomorrow so that will save us $8/per adult off the admission price! The little lady is still young enough to be free. After that we're doing a massive Costco run for a party on Sunday.

Sunday - annual cousin party at the beach with DH's family.  We'll have about 40 people down at the family beach house for the day. It's basically mayhem and I love it, but I'm going to be totally pooped come Monday morning.
  • No plans this weekend, but my house is grossing me out - We had a major plumbing backup happen midweek.  We got it fixed and I bleached the basement floor immediately after, but I'm still a germaphobe and feel the need to wipe down everything!

So, I think a major cleaning inside and a trim of the hedges outside is in order.

I also plan plan to do a big Costco haul - coupons for all the stuff I need just came out this week!!

  • Friday - Pizza night if H's trial gets finished in time.

Saturday - I'm returning Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.  I finished it last night, and it's the single most poorly written book I've ever read.  I have never returned a book before, but this one is going back.  On the bright side I also (finally) started Casual Vacancy, and it's very good, so I will probably finish it this weekend.

Also some cleaning and studying today.

Sunday - Tax free weekend for clothes, so H and I are going shopping at the outlets

  • Friday - no real plans.  I might do a Costco run, Charmin TP is on sale! :)  Otherwise just taking it easy, H's Crohn's treatment is today and that usually wipes him out for the rest of the day.

Saturday - Grocery shopping, and putting together our patio furniture, finally.  It'll be so nice to have the giant box OUT of the garage.  Some friends who are in town might also stop by.  The landscapers will also be working all day, now that the patio is done, they're going to finish the regrading and then actually start landscaping... rocks, bushes, a couple trees, etc.

Sunday - No plans, hopefully sleeping in.
  • @LillibetteV, your weekend sounds awesome!

@hoffse, wow!  That's terrible about the book.  Her other Harry Potter books are extremely well written.  I wonder if, now that she is a big success, she just half-assed this one.

I've been under a tremendous amount of stress and am hoping to keep this a calm weekend.  Unfortunately, I already know I have to do a mammoth grocery shopping trip, which I will tackle either today or tomorrow.  Hoping I have the energy after work today to get that done, so all I have for the rest of the weekend is my p/t job Saturday morning.

I checked and my state's "tax-free" weekend is today and tomorrow.  Except, get this, it's not tax-free like it has been in the past.  It is 2% less than usual.

Normally the state tax is 5% and my parish tax is 5%, so taxes are 10%.  Friday and Saturday they will be 8%, because the state tax will be 3% instead of 5%.  EIGHT percent.  So even our "tax-free" weekend has a higher/same sales tax than the normal sales tax for most of the country.  Awesome (sarcasm).

    Wow.  That just sucks! :(

  • @hoffse and @short+sassy we aren't even getting a tax free weekend this year! Although clothing items under $250 aren't taxed here anyways (over $250 it's considered luxury as opposed to essential) and clothes/shoes are all I really need to find replacements for soon. My favorite black flats are almost completely shot  :(

@short+sassy, she didn't write the book.  It's the script from the new play on the West End in London.  However, she did authorize the guy who wrote it and put her stamp of approval on it at the end.  It's truly horrible.

It wasn't the script thing that bugged me - I knew it was a script when I bought it.  I also knew she didn't write it.  But the dialogue is awful, the characters are totally different than any of the books, the plot is incredibly stupid, and some of the "magical rules" from the books are broken.  I never imagined she would have signed off on something so bad.  It was like really terrible fanfiction.

I almost think she didn't read it.

  • @hoffse That's really disappointing to hear. I haven't had time to make it to the bookstore and I feel like I'm the only person in my group of friends who hasn't purchased Cursed Child yet.

@short+sassy OUCH! 8% is like the max you pay in our area and that's only within the city limits of Atlanta.

@julieanne912 You should totally share some photos of your new patio/landscaping when it's all done! It sounds like it'll be really nice!

Friday - Working, drinks tonight with my family and cousin visiting from out of country. I'm also calling back the two siding companies today who gave us quotes to hire one and give the sad news to the other one. This is really tough. I'm hoping that the guy we hire today is open to negotiations a bit on his quote because he's more expensive but I really think he's going to give us a higher standard of work than the other company.

Saturday - Farmer's market and yard work.

Sunday - Grocery shopping, cooking, straighten up around the house.
  • @labro I will totally share some pics once it's done.  We used the firepit for the first time last night and it was pretty nice :) Our younger dog is scared of it though... it's sad/funny.

It's actually pretty lame, my work put a block on photo sharing sites and Facebook, so I can't see most of the pics people post on here, I rarely log in at home :(

Thanks for the clarification.  I agree.  She's worked hard for her "brand" and you'd think she'd take better care to safeguard it.
  • @julieanne912 Super lame! My work has a similar block, except for facebook so I can see SOME photos. Usually I end up browsing the site on my phone when I'm bored and that's when I can see all the pictures.

That's interesting!  I've never heard of clothes being an exception.

There are a few exceptions on the state tax, but zero for the parish tax.  The parish even taxes PRESCRIPTION medication.  All grocery items are taxed by the parish, even essentials like milk and bread.  It really just blows me away what money hungry jackals they are.  Especially the prescription medication.  That's the one that infuriates me every time.  It's despicable.

Okay, getting back off my soapbox.  Carry on with weekend plans!

I have the same problem.  I get home and go "wow, nice picture!".  If it's not mentioned in the post, I wouldn't even know.

  • Friday- H just got called into work for a suicide this morning. There goes lunch plans!  So tonight I'll go to the grocery store so it's one less thing I have to do tomorrow.

Saturday- Eye Dr. early in the day and we're having people over for a bonfire at night. Some of my friends from high school are coming and I haven't seen them in at least 5 years, some longer.

Sunday- H's aunt is coming over for breakfast and I'm meeting one of my girlfriends for a late lunch.

With th the exception of lunch being cancelled today, it should be a good weekend!

That is awful! Massachusetts doesn't tax clothing or groceries (not sure about Rx). Plus our sales tax is 6.25% which isn't that high. And yet we get called "Taxachusetts?" Pssh.
