I house sat for them when I was in college.  I suspect their water bill went up a bit that month!

When we first moved in, I ran several rounds of water through the tub cleaning it and never really saw a difference in the water bill.  I guess it depends on how often you use it though.

We have a late 1800's clawfoot tub that I use at least once a week, 2-3 times/week in the winter months.  I have yet to see our water bill increase from it.
Not sure how many gallons it holds, but it runs our water heater tank out of hot water before it's filled.  That's 50 gallons, then the cold water that's mixed in.

If I remember right, I think ours is a 75 gallon tub and we run into the same problem.  I start out doing full hot because by the time it fills, it's a mix.  I've not looked into the hot water heater, but it probably needs a size upgrade or maybe a conversion to one of those tankless deals.

I'm counting down the days till our water heater poops out.  It's pretty old. We both want to go tank less so bad.  On demand hot water?  Yes please.

I'm one of those crazy people who wouldn't buy a house if it didn't have a tub. Master wouldn't be a deal breaker, but would prefer it in the master.
If my claw foot wasn't so heavy I would take it with me whenever we move.  The cast-iron is amazing for insulation.  It stays hot for a solid 30 minutes.  The new tubs I'm constantly draining some water and re-filling with hot.

  • Our bathroom has a skylight and a big window, I love the natural light!

I'm not a fan of the look of glass block windows either, so we would have to replace the wood window with a vinyl to keep it from rotting from the water exposure.

  • I wish we had skipped the big tub and just moved our shower over, made it a bit bigger, and used the extra space for more closet.  We've been in our house almost 2 years and have yet to use the master tub.
  • Here I am making gender stereotypes.  I usually think of soaking in the tub as something just women like.  But my H loves taking baths.  He's about 50/50 on baths and showers.  He especially likes them to regulate his temperature, ie taking a cool bath on a hot day or a hot bath on a cold day.
