Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure hacks?

We're headed to Orlando for a week over Thanksgiving and have been looking for Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure hacks.  (We can get into Disney for free but haven't been to Universal in a few years and H prefers it.) Anyone been lately who has tips or tricks?  We'd like to spend in total two days there, but I'm thinking a three day pass (which is only $20 more for us both) will give us more bang for our buck allowing us to go early and then leave to lay by the pool midday or hang out with local friends and family when the parks start to get busy.  The "skip the line" add-on ticket is crazy expensive ($60+ per person per day) so this would give us a better chance of seeing and doing more.  Any other suggestions or ways to get cheaper tickets?
