Thinking about moving to Oregon
Hi All?
My husband and I currently live in Nor Ca but considering moving to Or. He would prefer Medford area where I would prefer a town outside Portland. He likes the small town feel. He is an electrician and I am a teacher . Any advice on where to live or the job market would be greatly appreciated.?

Re: Thinking about moving to Oregon
I work in the electrical industry (Oregon Electric Group) and I would advise moving to a larger city....more job opps for him. We have offices in the lower valley (Eugene Springfield area) all the way up to Seattle and we're keeping busy, but it's definatly showing signs of slowing so I wouldn't chance it with a smaller town. If you move to the metro area there are plenty of suburban towns within driving distance for him to work! I live in Canby and LOVE the small town feel it gives! Yet I commute 33 miles to work in 40-60 minutes depending on the day.
And I can't speak about teaching jobs...but I'm sure there are more opportunities in our suburban schools then down south!
Our job market...sucks. DH is in the auto industry and I work an office job in Metals Recycling, both of us have seen a lot of our friends and coworkers lose their jobs in the last year. I personally got laid off twice last year, in July of 07 and April of 08. I would highly reccomend that you both have jobs lined up before you move.
Medford and Portland are VERY different, have you been to both cities? I love Portland and the Portland metro area, but I could never imagine living in Medford. A good middle ground might be Bend/Redmond area. It's growing quickly but still feels like a "small town".
