? re: Pierce College

So we have these family friends who are very obsessed with status, titles, prestige, etc... Their family Christmas letter is always pretty hysterical....especially because most of their kids have not ended up turning out quite as "prestigious" as they would have liked. They pulled their kids out of high school (which was an excellent schoo) in order to send them to East coast prep schools (they live in Chicago). But none of their kids ended up going to very good colleges.

Their one kid graduated from prep school and then I believe got kicked out of college (I forget which one, but not an Ivy League like they would have hoped). We got their Christmas letter recently and it talked about how their son decided to stay in California and go to Pierce which is a "2-year school IN THE UC SYSTEM). What?? Is that something I'm missing? I know several friends that have gone to Pierce and it's just so funny to me because obviously there's nothing wrong with going to CC (my DH did and then went on to a 4-year-school), but these people seem to just make stuff up to "puff up" their letter!

I know a lot of students end up getting into UC and CS schools, am I right that Pierce is not actually within either of those systems?

It just made me laugh....

Re: ? re: Pierce College

  • When I sat down with a counselor at Pierce last winter, she told me that Pierce is not in the UC system, but of course some credits are transferable.
  • Pierce is a CC, like Syl said, not in UC nor CS, but units are transferrable.  And the 2-year bit...huh?  I attended Valley College concurrently with CSUN.  I have friends who attended Valley and I think they got AA's in 2 years.
  • That's a riot! Anything typically ending with "college" is a CC. Few exceptions but Pierce is definitely not one of them!

This letter sounds alot like the one my Parents get every x-mas. The one where the dysfunctional family pretends their lives are oh-so-great. For example, the family claims their daughter is exploring culinary arts. Aka: she's a food cooker at In&Out's. Same girl also had a meth addiction,  instead of Mom omitting this from 2007 news cap letter, Mom stated her daughter (in rehab) was traveling and seeing the sites. Puhleeze.

  • Wow....I guess this means "I got my degree from UC-COC"  right?????
