What a long, strange Christmas it has been. First, we drove to the in-laws in really terrible weather on 12/23. It took us 5 hours to go 150 miles. Then we drove over 900 miles to my parents' house on Christmas Day. The day after, we went to visit my dad on his "farm." We got to feed a donkey, and then my dad decided to spend 30 minutes criticizing me for not taking my H's name. That was fun. I was also glad that the H and I bought Obama magnets 'cause my dad is now stuck with McCain Palin stickers on his cars.
After driving through a torrential rainstorm to return to civilization, we had family Christmas with my mom. (I got my first-ever cashmere sweater. I'm in love.) I'm pretty sure my uncle was baked out of his head when he showed up. I could smell pot on his breath when he talked to me. I was certain my parents knew, but as best I could tell from talking to my mom the next day, she was completely clueless. Oh, and after we'd all been drinking (a LOT), my brother started in on an anti-Sarah Palin rant. Now, I can bash Palin with the best of them, but I know that my other brother is conservative, so I figured it was best not to discuss. The conversation steered away from Palin FOUR TIMES, and each time, my brother managed to bring it right back. I could've killed him.
The day after that, the H went skeet shooting with my family. Fortunately, nobody shot anybody else. We then went to my stepmom's family Christmas party so I could meet my niece. After I mentioned to an aunt that my H was overwhelmed by all the people because he's an only child, she made some comment about only children being brats. Nice.
We somehow made the drive from my parents to the in-laws in 13.5 hours on Tuesday. We got back to Milwaukee, and the H convinced me to get a 46" LCD HDTV. I have never owned a new TV before, so I died a little inside at the prices. But we did get an awesome deal, and we had a great time playing Rock Band on it last night.
And those were just the highlights. I feel like I need three weeks to recover.
I see I missed some good times discussing the Israeli-Palenstinian conflict and whether E08 is anti-Semitic. Did I miss anything else great? Happy New Year!
Re: I'm baaaaack
Thanks!
Oh, I forgot to mention the part where my mom is upset that my brother has become an atheist. That made for an awesome conversation with her!

You really do deserve a vacation after that one!
