Does anyone have a good pedi with extended hours?

I had the hardest time finding this Board since the BIG CHANGE!

Anyway.....it's becoming more and more clear that I can't handle pedi appointments by myself.  I called in defeat (and tears) to cancel the one I was going to miss today because it took me over 3hrs to get us all out of the house and, by then, I just wasn't going to make it.

I need DH to be here to help me with this stuff.  But, he leaves the house at 3am and doesn't get home until 4pm, at the earlies.  He works in Everett, MA.  So, him coming to an appt would be an entire day off.  With 3 kids, all under 2, I'm expecting that I'll be at the pedi at least once a month and it's just not possible for him to take one day a month off (he's a contractor and MA has strict rules - so, if he's not there, an apprentice can't work that day because it disrupts the numbers).

I love my pedi and the staff, but they have the typical 8-5 M-F hours.  It's just not going to work.

I'm willing to travel.  I live in Deerfield, so I'm pretty much equi-distant to everything.  I'd go to Manchester, Londonderry, Bedford.....anything in that area.  I'd say Portsmouth and Nashua, too, but that's about an hour away, so that might be a bit far.  But, any recs in that area would be great, too, and then I can mapquest it and see how far it really is.

I'm just at a loss here.....at my breaking point.  I've been crying for over an hour - crying at being an utter failure at being a mom (I can't even get my kid to damn doctor!) and crying at having to leave a pedi office that I really, really like.

Any input would be appreciated.

And, I'm glad I found this board again.....going to bookmark it.  :-)

Re: Does anyone have a good pedi with extended hours?

  • I can't help you (we see family practice instead of a pedi), but I just wanted to say that I am sending you all my strength. You're a good mom, you're just overwhelmed. And who wouldn't be with your DH's hours and two kids and being pg?

We're here for you anytime you need to vent it out. I'm sorry I can't be of more help!

  • I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions, but I just wanted to give you some encouragment! You can do it, and you are a great mom! You knowing that it's not working, and you need to figure out a different plan shows that you are fabulous! Hang in there!

Also, is their an alternative to Dh having to go with you? I have no idea if it is an option for you, but maybe a relative or even a baby sitter could stay with one or two of the kids while you and the child with an appointment head out. I also don't know if you would be open to looking, but even ifyou found a high school student they would get out of school by 2:30 or so, and that might work for you. Just trying to see if maybe you could work it out so you don't have to leave the pedi you love!

Good luck and hang in there!

  • Oh my gosh, you must be SO beside yourself :( Hang in there...

We bring Austin to Nashua Pediatrics - they have an office in Milford, Merrimack and Nashua - the Nashua Office Hours are M-F 8:30am - 7:30pm, Saturday they are open 8:30am-3:30pm, Sunday 11:00am - 1:30pm and have a nurse on-call after that...I believe Sat. and Sun. may only be for urgent care, but I would call them up if you are interested or want more info: 883-0826

    GL with everything!!!

  • We go to a family practice in MA, so it's no help to you :(  But you're doing a great job as a mom by searching for another great doctor for you girls! You're completely entitled to feel overwhelmed! I hope the cry helped a bit; I'm a strong believer in it being helpful.  Keep us bookmarked!
  • I also go to Nashua Pediatrics....same as Ms. Magoo...I love them and the weekend hours are fabulous!!  They might be too far for you though...

Hang in there...you are trying your best...try if you can to give yourself a break!  You have 2 kids under 2 and are pregnant...My goodness!  Sometimes I feel overwhelmed and I only have Jack!  Good luck to whatever you choose!

  • We go to Dartmouth Hitchcock in Manchester and I love Haley's Pediatrician (Michelle Mandel)! They are open:
    • Monday through Friday: 8:00 am to 9:00 pm
    • Saturday and Sunday: 8:30 am to 2:00 pm

Only downfall is the fact that they are a large department, so you tend to see different DR's for the "unscheduled" appointments, but you will always be able to see yor pediatrician for all the normal physicals/check ups. It doesn't bother me at all....I like all the staff.

    Good luck!!

  • Another fan of Nashua Pedi here. ?I love their extended hours.

Best of luck to you and hang in there!?

  • I don't have this pedi yet, but it's who we are planning to use come April when baby gets here.  It's Lamprey River Health Care in Raymond.  I also wanted to chime in and say that you are not a bad mother...I know I couldn't handle two under two with one on the way...kudos to you!!!!

  • Thank you so much!  I've been thinking of looking into Dartmouth Hitchcock because my pedi's office is really stroller friendly either and there's no way I can get these kids in there without the stroller.

I wouldn't mind driving to Nashua on a Saturday either.  Whatever is going to help.

I do have a sitter that helps me out, but her DH was off for most of the week, so they had plans, so she couldn't help me out today.  But, even then, I likely wouldn't have gotten out of the house in time to even get Kate there while I took Cass to the doctor.

It's just too much - getting the bag packed, getting myself cleaned and dressed, getting the two of them dressed, having one pitching a fit while the other one is getting dressed, Kate undressing herself once she was done, Cassidy falling off the bed while I tried to get Kate taken care of.  Then it's up and down 2 flights of stairs to the car multiple times.  It's just too much for me being 18wks pregnant with an IV because of the HG, feeling like death.

My parents are over an hour away.  My mother works full time.  My dad is self-employed, but he's almost 70 and not very healthy, so babysitting isn't easy on him.

I want to call the makers of Trivora - that stupid birth control pill that didn't work - and tell them off.  That might make me feel better.  :-)

At least if I knew the pedi appts would be taken care of where DH was there with me, that would take pressure off of me.

I think my neighbors use Dr. Mandel and love her.  I've looked into that place in the past and I know my DD's former pedi is at the DH Bedford office.  I loved him more than the other guy, but I really do like the staff and stuff.  But, that's just not enough anymore.  I'm going to call them next week.

  • Sounds like you got some good recs, but just wanted to chime in that, for various reasons, I am switching my son FROM lamprey health care - one reason being it is really hard to schedule well child visits with who you want (never mind sick ones), they just seem to take on way too many patients. ?Doesn't sound like you're going that way anyway, but wanted to put that out there....
  • Another DH Manch fan here!  Owen sees Dr Hollister who we adore, but I don't believe he is taking new patients.  We have seen Dr Mandell many times & really like her too.

I'm so sorry that you have HG again!  I can't even imagine dealing w/ 2 under 2 & HG.  Fear of HG is one of the biggest reasons I am no where near ready to try for #2!

    GL!
