We're moving to Milwaukee in Feb from Hawaii. We just found a couple weeks ago that I am pregnant. I'll be 13 weeks by the time we get there and am being followed by a great dr here. I'll have BCBS insurance and am trying to find a good dr and hospital there to deliver. I'd prefer a solo practice but would go to a group practice is several of the drs are good. I also am thinking about a natural delivery but am open to an epidural so I want a dr that will support my decision (I've already talked to some that arent so supportive). I'd like to deliver somewhere where they believe in non-separation and are strong breastfeeding advocates. Any suggestions on Drs or hospitals would be greatly appreciated! Happy New year!!
Re: OB/GYN recommendations
What area will you be living in?
My OB us just north of Milwaukee in Mequon. Located int he Columbia St Mary's Ozaukee hospital. Everyone in the group is very nice, I see Dr. Lipinski. I also gave birth there, the birthing center is new and the rooms are very nice. All the nurses and LC were very nice and supportive.
I just meet this Dr. in Waukesha this morning.

I really liked her. It was not a medical appt, but just to see if I like her. She is proactive and very through. I like that she does early ultra sounds and I explained some of my symptoms while pregnant and she told me that she would have done a lot more monitoring especially when my BP skyrocketed at 34 weeks and she will be more proactive about trying to keep my baby in me till term. I also asked her a lot of questions about genetic screening. I might be of "advanced maternal age" by the time I have a 2nd and I am not for invasive tests. She said she will support us on that. I had a doc that wanted to put us through the ringer with these because DS had soft markers. She is not against the tests in any way, but I didn't want to be made to feel like a failure as a mom for not doing the tests like the previous doc did. She sat with me for 25 min and talked and my appt was free.
I am also considering Dr. Baer in Wauwatosa, but I hear he is always really behind for his appts., but he is rank #3 in the midwest.
Congrats and welcome to Milwaukee. Everyone I know that works at Children's loves it. I think they just got ranked as #3 in the nation.
I saw Dr. Carlson at Milwaukee OB/GYN and I really liked him. I saw him for every appointment except one (he was out of town for Easter). He was still out of town when I delivered (he came back the next day, figures!), so my son was delivered by Dr. Sportiello, who was also fab.
I delivered at West Allis Women's Pavillion and loved it! Everyone was super nice (except for my scary overnight nurse), very helpful & knowledgeable. The hospital is all for letting the baby stay in the room with you, and very helpful with breastfeeding, too.
Good luck & congrats!
I saw Dr. Lund at froedtert, LOVE HIM! I seriously would hang out with him on the weekend if it wasn't wierd. He was also on the top 500 doc's in mke magazine. I have friends who have seen others in that practice (Dr. King, also on the top 500) and love them but I didn't meet any of them.
My delivery was great, had one crappy nurse but she was gone after 2 hrs the others were wonderful and very encouraging. When I did get the epi (after 9 hrs of active labor) it worked perfectly. All the pain went away but I still felt the urge to push and everything. Baby never left the room and the LC's were great!
