Sears Tower or John Handcock
We are taking friends from out of the country to Chicago. We will be in both areas and am wondering what you think is the best one to go to. I was thinking John Handcock, because those under 18 could go to the observation deck and those over could get a drink at the Signature Lounge.
Re: Sears Tower or John Handcock
The soup place...might be The Soupbox? I have only been to the location in Lakeview (on the north side, by Wrigley Field). But I see on their website that there's a new one at 50 E. Chicago in the Gold Coast neighborhood. On a nice day, it's walkable from the Hancock (just a few blocks east). The location that I have been to is super small, so that might be the case with the other one.
Up in that 'hood (a little further north by State St / Rush St.) is also "Goddess and the Grocer" a great little deli, which is also connected to "Cru Wine Bar" (a cute place for small plates...had my first date with DH there). Cru might only be open for dinner.
Since you'll be on the Miracle Mile...
in the Hancock on the ground floor is a nice Italian place. It's not a restaurant, more of a lunch place. In Water Tower, there's a great place that makes all different kinds of pre-packaged meals... I think it's called Foodlife?
I also like the Indian Garden on Ontario east of Michigan. They have a good, cheap lunch special.
It's not inexpensive, but the tea at the Peninsula is a wonderful experience for the ladies. I've heard the Drake is nice for tea, too, but I've never been (heresy!)
