Any campers here?

I haven't gone camping in years. DH and I are going this summer.  It will be to a campground.  Not exactly roughing it, but I do need a tent.  I've done a little research online, but it is overwhelming.  Any recommendations?

Re: Any campers here?

  • DH and I bought this tent last year and LOVE it! http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_9990000023613611P

It has so much space it in and I love that it has a screen room so that we have a spot to put shoes and stuff, especially if it is raining.

  • well i doubt you would be interested in our tent because it is super tiny, we have to take it on planes and then backpacking so our main concern was weight and size.

I did want to tell you that we found it at an amazing price at Cabela's in their back clearance room. It didn't have a box but it has served us well over the past few years.

I also recommend REI we have bought some camping gear off their site and their reviews are helpful and we've been pleased.

  • Our you looking for the tent or a campground? I actually have 2 tents that I haven't used in years and then were only used a couple of times. one is a dome and the other is more the house style. They are still at my moms who I'm positive will be getting rid of them this year since she won't be using them and since she decided to start cleaning anything that she has no use for after seeing what mess we had when moving. They are both nylon ones I think sleep 6-8,so they say but if you both have sleeping bags side by side, there isn't much room left over. They are single room as well.

  • We have a Marmot Aeros 3P.

    http://marmot.com/fall_2008/equipment/tents/ultralight/aeros_3p

It is big enough for either a queen air bed with bags at your feet or two single air beds (which we prefer for hiking) and more space.?

?We do a fair amount of camping and needed something small and compact to hike with and to travel in the car with. ?It was a little more expensive, but we have camped in two 40+ mph wind/rain storms and been dry and cozy. ?You can't stand up in it, but it also doesn't collapse (which our taller one from the backroom at cabela's which is taller did. ?It was scary in the middle of the night!)

    Good luck!?

  • We've got the campground. It's at Pymatuning Lake in Jamestown, PA and I reserved our spot yesterday (for July!). I used to camp there every year when I was little and now our family reunion is at the park so I'm going camping again!  It's easy, cheesy camping, but still fun.

I just need a tent and various other camping things, but mostly a tent.  Raeann, if you are offering those tents, how much do you want?  I'd love to take a look.

  • Depending on how much you want to get into camping...our tent is the orange/grey/white coleman that's 17wx10Lx6h.  It has gone through a tropical depression, lighting, high winds, buckets of rain and still going strong with no leaks.  I think its $120 or more though so it wouldn't be worth it if you're not looking to be camping much.

I wouldn't recommend those little dome tents.  It always seems like those are the people who end up soaked after the rain.

I would suggest hitting up the Coleman outlet at Rockvale though for anything you need.  Or the Cabela's bargain cave (especially right now after all of the Christmas returns).
