Registering for Twins.....anyone can help??

So we went to Babies R Us to start a registry and we got a few things figured out, but got very overwhelmed as well by the time we left the store.  Besides all the decisions on each item we are a bit lost on how many of each item we really need.  We are having twins, but do we really need two pack n plays, bouncey seats, etc?  Anyone have any input or experience on what is useful to have two of and what is just overkill??

 TIA!!

Re: Registering for Twins.....anyone can help??

  • Sorry, I'm no help with the twin department but I do have a suggestion about registering. I went crazy ordering every "baby" item I could find. When all was said and done, I only used the swing, bouncy seat and many more items for a few months before Haley outgrew them. Then, I had to go out and buy all new things. I suggest registering for items that are for older babies and toddlers too!! Especially since you are having two, things can get pricey later on.

    GL!!

  • Well I don't have TWINS...but I think I can still help out a little bit.  registering for ONE is overwhelming enough - I can't imagine what it would feel like with 2 to do it for!

Biggest thing you don't want to have TOO much stuff because unless you live in a mansion... they take up a LOT of space.

Pack N Plays... no I wouldn't think you would need 2 at all.  You will probably only use it for about 10 months or so for keeping them in one spot.  maybe a little more, but mine hardly ever slept in them.  I had them in their beds.  I used it just to have them someplace safe and relax while I made lunch, did laundry, etc.  Plus one can be in the pack n play, and one in a bouncy seat, etc.

Bouncy seats - another story!  (although they don't really BOUNCE, it's more of a mini cradle)  I would say YES you would need one for each.  Chase stayed in his while I showered in the bathroom with me, and you definately can't fit 2 in one.  Just don't get anything super pricey or fancy.  They don't need it.

Swings - hmmm... another toughie.  I'd say 2 would be better so you can try to put them to sleep at the same time.  But the bigger ones are big space takers... so see if you can get the small ones that are close to the floor.  Much less space to use.  Swings are a BIG necessity though!  They help a lot.

Let's see.... for other entertainment like exersaucers and jumperoo's.  I would say one of each would be good... you can rotate them back and forth.  For the floor gym things, one should be fine... they can share one.

I would ask for small space saver chairs rather than individual high chairs.  It would be way too crowded with 2 big ones.  I think the Fisher Price ones are the one's I like.  They can recline, have a tray, etc.  I don't HAVE one, but I wish I had.  My son's daycare uses them.  They can go on the floor or strapped to a kitchen chair.

One changing table... don't think two are needed, unless you have 4 arms to do both at the same time.  haha.  You won't ALWAYS have someone there to help.

Hope some of that helps.... I'll think of more.  :-)

  • Thanks....that definitely does help out a bit!!  I couldn't believe how overwhelming it was to start registering!!  Any advice is definitely welcome!!  :-)
  • Joy - my cousin had twins in June.  I can ask her, if that would help?
  • Sure, if you don't mind.  I think any information would be very helpful!
  • From my own personal experience -

    *need* 2 of -

cribs (can start w/ 1 but will need 2 eventually)

    carseats

    bouncers

    boppys

    bumbos

highchairs - I highly recommend the fisher price space savers!

everything else I think is optional

We have 2 PNPs and never really used either one. One's our downstairs changing table now and the others at my MILs now

We had 1 swing and neither baby liked it

We have 1 exersaucer and 1 jumperoo and the babies take turns in each

We have 1 playmat and both babies still fit underneath together and can play at the same time

I think thats it......if you plan to bottle feed, get a LOT of bottles. We had 24 when the babies were newborns so I had to make bottles every other day. We're still using the infant tub in the kitchen sink, but we do have 2 bath seats for when they can sit up on their own.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me - aparadis1013 at hotmail dot com

    Congrats again!

  • Forgot about strollers......definitley get a double snap n go for when they are still in their infant seats. SOOO conveint, couldn't live w/out mine.

We also have a Bumbleride Indie Twin. Pricey, but worth it. I've also heard good things about the Valco baby twin, BOB duallie and the Baby Jogger City Mini

  • We found a twin crib at a consignment store and it was perfect!  I don't know where you would get one to buy, but it saved us tons of space when we lived in an apartment.  I think you should register for those things that you will definately need at the beginning.  My could-not-live-without doubles were two swings, boppys, bumbos, pnps, and bouncy chairs.  The twins slept in our room until I stopped nursing them at 9 months, so they shared a pnp until then.  They never fit in the bassinet we bought them, and they liked being together so the pnp was very helpful.  As they got bigger, we used both pnp all the time.

I loved the floor gym I got for my shower.  The twins would be occupied for hours with that thing, and Judah loves it too.

I second getting the space saver high chairs.  Unless you have a huge kitchen, they just make more sense.

As for double strollers, we got the Combi and HATED it.  It was reasonable, but very cheaply made.  We also had a Graco for when they were infants that was okay.  Just felt like you were a mile behind the babies.

There is nothing better than having twins. Now that they are 3, its even better because they keep each other entertained and they sleep at night!

  • Although I don't have twins... :)  I agree that registering was VERY overwhelming!  Things that I've loved-  Our FP Aquarium for the crib. Anna calms down immediately with it- worth every penny & maybe my favorite baby item.  FP newborn to toddler rocker- it's a bouncy seat type of thing- worked well when she was little and still now at 6.5 mos- she can't use the rainforest bouncy that my mom has.  A floor gym by gymini- essential.  Tiny Love symphony mobile. Disney's lullaby album- we play this in the car... and Anna is asleep by the end of the 2nd song.  FP activity center for the crib- it's an old school type of crib toy- keeps her entertained for 15 minutes longer in the morning.  Most of these ideaes (i think all) were things that we've used from birth (or about then) till now 6.5 months.  For us, she hated the swing, the travel lite pnp is too small for her to sleep in now (she gets stuck when she moves), the changing pad cover is easier to do without- but not as pretty, Moses basket (didn't work for us,with the dog).  Exciting!!! Have fun :)  Oh! and definitely go to your hospital's mom's group, if there is one!
