Unauthorized Guide - Thoughts??

My sister bought this for me over the weekend (The Twilight Companion - The Unauthorized Guide to the Series) and I was wondering if any of you lovely ladies have read it?? I'm in the middle of the Outlander series (Drums of Autumn, in fact), so I won't be reading it until I finish those. Is it any good? I'd rather be reading the official guide, you know. Wink

Re: Unauthorized Guide - Thoughts??

  • I picked up one while killing time in the bookstore a couple weeks ago and promptly put it back down. I'm not sure if it's the same one (I'll look for a link of the one I thumbed through), but the one I saw SUCKED.

It was probably one of the worst publications I've ever laid eyes on.

  • Here's the one I saw. Epic FAIL.
  • That's what I was afraid of... another reason I didn't buy it myself. Big Smile I just didn't want to hurt her feelings, since she honestly thought I'd love it.

  • Hurting feelings isn't worth it. Check out the table of contents, though. That alone is laughable.
  • I picked it up thinking it was the real deal and carried it around the bookstore for a bit.  I eventually put it back and decided to just hold out until SM gets off her butt and gets the real guide published.

    So it's really bad, huh?

  • Ehh. Yeah. I wouldn't buy it with my own money. I wouldn't buy it with someone else's money either. But if someone bought it for me I would just suck it up and put in on the shelf and wait for the Official one to come out.

  • I read some of those amazon reviews. Yikes!

  • I must add that it was really sweet of your sister to buy the book for you since she is probably aware of your obsession with the series.  It's the thought that counts!  I wish my brother put thought into my gifts...he probably has no clue what Twilight is about just the fact that I shushed him a few weeks ago when the preview played on MTV.  That or he is trying not to fan the flames of my obsession!!

Yep... I'm LMAO at the chapter titles. However, I'm taking pp's advice and shelving it. Smile Little sis will never know...

  • This quote from a review pretty much sums it up:

"The book is maybe 25% about Twilight, and the other 75% is about other vampire and werewolf movies and books. The parts that do contain references to Twilight are riddled with errors."

I agree with pp - definitely sweet of your sister, but I'd lie and use your vast Twilight knowledge from your own head or on here and say it was from the book if she ever asks. Turn the book into a fancy coaster or something. Stick out tongue

  • i picked it up twice and put it down twice this weekend.  I was the Real one form SM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
