I have an induction date set
So we went to the doctor this afternoon and it appears my cervix is still doing pretty much nothing and I'm only dilated a tiiiiny bit more... it's been like this for over a month now (something having to do with her head placement affecting the cervix or something). Theya re doubtful I will progress much on my own this week so I am scheduled for induction one week from today (the 12th) at 5:30 AM.
I'm feeling better now knowing there is an end in site! I'm also relieved that I will have my doctor instead of whoever is on call!

I love these two beautiful children!
I was wondering about you...I don't think Liz posts here very often anymore but she had a great induction story...she posted it about 3 months ago so if you are interested, you could go back and look...might be inspiring! : )
Good luck!
Haha. Amy, I have been pretty absent haven't I!
I was induced with misoproxill (sp?). It is a pill they put behind my cervix. It worked great for me. I have never heard of any other doctor using this method, but it is worth asking about. I didn't need pitocin because my contractions got stronger and harder. Apparently, I was having contractions before the pill and I didn't really know it. My midwife broke my water and after that it was all a blur. I have probably said this before, but getting in the tub felt so wonderful. Drink lots of water before you go in and bring a big bottle with you. They might let you just stay hydrated that way instead of an IV at first. I demanded that. I hate IVs so they just put a saline lock on it and I only had to get one bag of fluid the whole labor and I was thankful for that. Get up and move around if you are able. The one thing I realized when I was in labor was that some people over exaggerate things in their birth stories. It was way less dramatic than I thought it would be. We had a wonderful birth and we didn't have a "plan", but we had birth wishes and we made sure the nurses knew what we wanted and didn't want. We just took things as they came. Good Luck!
Yay! I also was induced at 37 weeks and it went great!
I also had the 2 doses of the pill that Liz mentions, then pitocin. I started the first pill at 11 a.m. and DS was born at 12:43a.m. So all in all it wasn't too long. Crazy pain/contractions didn't start until about 5p.m. I was already 2 cm and 90% effaced though. GOOD LUCK!!! XOXO
found my story...bottom line get an epi Much sooner then i did haha
We went to my 37 week appointment after being on bed/house arrest since labor day on July 2nd, my BP was still really high and I was getting sicker and sicker from the pre-e. I was finally granted an induction for the next day. I was sent to labor and delivery to get cervadil (a gel they place in your cervix to help thin you out a little more). I was already 2cm and 90% effaced though starting at 36 weeks. I think my body was getting ready to extract the little guy.
On the 3rd we started my induction around 11:30 a.m. with misoprostol (it?s a pill inserted into your cervix that works like pitocin without the IV and you can eat etc., it is more gentle to start things off). I had 2 doses of that and around 5p.m. I was really starting to feel more contractions so I was switched to pitocin. Things really picked up, I was in pain but didn?t want to be ?checked? because well, man that shiit hurts!
My hospital room overlooked Lake Champlain and had a perfect view of the fireworks that are huge! So I said I could wait until after the fire works to get my epidural, well that was basically the stupidest thing I could have done! About two fireworks in my water broke on its own, I had diarrhea and vomiting and the WORST pain in the entire world, I was begging for the epi guy. He was busy with someone else because I could hold out till after the fire works! J That was the worse half hour of my life, I labored on the toilet and the whole thing is a big painful blur, I think I almost blacked out!
I finally got checked after my epi was in (which was so NOT painful at all) and I was 9.5cm, HOLY CRAP. I labored all that on my own. I am insane. I was so afraid of having a failed induction I wanted to wait until at least 6cm to get my epi, but 9, ummm no. The doctor was sooo busy that she begged me to wait and let me get some benefit of the epi, when she came back about an hour later I was ready to push. Pushed for about 15 minutes and out slid Jacoby at 12:43 a.m. on the 4th. I had a little cut on the inside that needed one stitch, other than that everything was great UNTIL I started hemorrhaging about an hour later and they had to go back up into my cervix and pull out a huge clot (that was sooo painful) But then an hour later sill hemorrahaging like crazy and they went back up and pulled out a cantaloupe size clot, that was WAY more painful than anything I had experienced that day. It is such a bummer because I really think everything would have been a lot less painful if they didn?t have to go back up there once the epi wore off. Jacoby ended up being 5lbs 12oz. 19.5 inches. He had some issues and spent some time in the NICU but that is another story, I had pre-e, the anit-lewis antibody and Group B strep, so the poor kid had it in for him.
Sorry this is so long, but I know how afraid I was of an induction and my story is a success. Thanks for reading!
