Books in '09...

Alisha's (I spelled that wrong, didn't I?) post about books and those of you doing the 50 in '09 challenge made me think that maybe we should all list our favorite books/authors?

what do you think?

Re: Books in '09...

  • I admit, I am a very "light hearted" reader.  I pretty much don't read anything "heavy" and stick to a lot of cheezy (yes, with a z) chick lit and easy to read J. Patterson type mysteries.  Reading is an enjoyable past time for me but I don't have a lot of time for it so I stick with books that are fast reads or easy to pick up from where I left off.

I like the Women's Murder Club Series from J. Patterson.  I've also read "The Jury" by him - that was really good - I read it on the plane from here to Hawaii last year.

Now ... chick lit - ha!  I love it - they are all the same story over and over again but to me they are like romantic comedy movies that you read instead of watch.

Some of my fav Authors are Sophie Kinsella (shopaholic series and others), Emily Griffin, Jane Green, Meg Cabot, Lauren Weisberger, Jennifer Weiner.

  • I would very much like to do the 50 in '09 challenge.  Is there a certain way to keep up with all the books you have read?

I've only been actively reading for a few years now, so I'll just list the books I have read:

The Crush and A Kiss Remembered by Sandra Brown

I've read 13 of the 14 books in the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum series.

Of course, the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer.

I would like to branch out in other genres such as classic lit and horror.  I'm also intrested in some non-fiction.  Hopefully if I do that challenge it'll give me the oppertunity to do so.

ETA: Duh!  I can't beleive I forgot The Davinci Code and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.  Those were the first books I read when I started becoming a more serious reader.

    Siggy coming soon....
  • Good idea! this sounds like fun :)

I want to do the 50 in '09! I think I just might.

    My all-time favorites:

On the Night of the Seventh Moon - Victoria Holt

Henry VIII (with notes by his foo, Will Somners) - Margaret George

Mary, Queen of Scots - Margaret George

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan - Lisa See

Peony in Love - Lisa See

The Red Tent - Anita Diamant

The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown

    The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks

    The Wedding - Nicholas Sparks

A Painted House - John Grisham

Twilight Series (minus BD- blah!) - Stephenie Meyers

  • AM...we have the same taste in books.  Several of those are my favorites too : )1

  • That 1 shouldn't be there.  Mia was banging on my computer.  Oops
  • I miss reading so much!  Ever since the baby and being back to work, I just don't have the time.  I would love to read before bed, but am SO exhausted at the end of the day, it just doesn't happen....

Anyway, being a science geek, I love the "forensic-y" (yes, that's my made up work) type books - Patricia Cornwell, Jeffrey Deaver, Iris Johannsen (sp??) are my favorites!!!

  •  I love to read but for some reason I just can't seem to find the time.  I love ckick lit (cheezy I admit)- the shopaholic series, emily griffen, and lauren weisenberg are some of my favs.

I also love classics- Wuthering heights is one of my all time favs.

Recent reads that I have loved have been:

    The Pillars of the Earth

    The Gatecrasher

    The Shack

I have a stack of books on my nightstand that I am determined to read in 2009 though!

  • I love to read as well.  I am all over the spectrum on my reading habits.  I like auto biographies, historical fiction, children's literature, chick lit, mysteries, classics, etc.

My fave mystery author is Mary Higgins Clark.

I am doing the 50 in 09 and I am almost finished with Breaking Dawn as my first book (and to agree with PP...BLAH!).  I'm thinking I might read The Book Thief next because I have heard good things about it!

Ohh! I haven't read the book but I loved the movie.

Have you read Just Like You, Only Prettier by Celia Rivenbark? It's southern women's lit, so its a lot like Ya-Ya sisterhood. It is HILARIOUS!

  • LIke PP's have stated, I'm all over the reading board too.  I was never a big reader until I read the Twilight series.  Since then I haven't been able to stop reading the smutty vampire books, LOL.  I'm on book 7 of the Sookie Stackhouse series and then I plan to read the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series.  If I still haven't got my vampire/shifter fill, I'll move on to some other books like that.  I've also got Confessions of a Shopaholic on my list to read.
  • it may be to ambitious for me to do the 50 challenge so i'm going for the 25 in 09.  below are some of my all time favs and recent loves

    Between, Georgia Joshilyn Jackson

    The Ice Queen Alice Hoffman

    Puddnhead Wilson Mark Twain

The Memory Keeper's Daughter Kim Edwards

    The Giver Lois Lowry

    Deep Dish Mary Kay Andrews

Fav of all time: Anne of Green Gables the Series LM Montgomery. Yes, I have read them all and I LOVE them!

  • Well, it's been years since I've read so I don't have much to offer.  Back then I read Eric Jerome Dickey books, but stopped enjoying them.  Of course if I reach back further, "A Touchdown for Bobby" sticks out in my mind.  It was so sad and I can't even find it online now... I wonder if that's the correct name... The books I read in high school were great i.e. Diary of Anne Frank, Jane Eyre, etc.  Anyway, I'm looking at all of your suggestions!   Don't know if I can read 50, but will try to read as many as I can!  Oh, and I ordered First to Die by James Patterson from Amazon!!!

You and me both!  Have you read Joshilyn Jackson.  She has done Gods in Alabama and Between, Georgia.  She has a new one out and I haven't read it yet.  Undomestic Goddess by Sophia Kinsella is good (I will admit I don't love the shopoholic series but loved this one). I really like Young Adult lit so Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, Holes are all good easy reads.

WOW, I just read the first chapter of this book and it sounds amazing.  I've heard other people say really good things about this book.  I'm going to add it to my reading list.
