Dr just cut my pay!

I don t work on Monday's~ and while I was out they had a meeting about some rainy day type fund. They voted yes to have money taken out of their checks to go toward this account. Well they are all on sal. and I am considered an ind. contract and this little rainy day deal is gonna take a huge chunk out of my pay check!! Totally freaking out! IF you know any Dentist in the AU area hiring let me know

  • so have you always worked for a dentist or could you work in any dr's office?  There are a TON of dentists in AU, most of them are in the Central Park area.  My friends are in one practice but I don't think they are hiring.  Could you pick up working on Mon?

  • no he just hired two girls to answer the phone and says he can t afford to pay out anymore
  • I can't believe they would make a decision like that without include everyonen it affects!  Even if you're contracted, it still affects you. That's pretty jacked up.

  • I'm so sorry!  Is it possible to talk with your Dr. and see if something else could be worked out?  Do you have to participate since your a contrator?
  • Yeah I talked to him, he said it was a done deal. I also checked to see if I could work at least 4 days a week, and he told me he would think about it he just hired 2 college girls to answer then phones(they do nothing becasue we already have two full time receptionist) But anyway.....
  • Ok, I'm going to play devils advocate here.  What is the Rainy Day fund going to be used for.  Office parties??  Or some kind of vacation incentives or something??  Would it benefit everyone to do it?? i.e are they going to treat the office staff to something really special with this fund?? I guess my question is what is the money being used for and will it benefit everyone??

    I know it sucks to have some kind of decision made on your behalf when your not there to defend yourself.  I'm sure a lot of the people can afford to give money up, but right now isn't the time for paycuts/rainy day funds.

  • Here's my other question - why did he hire 2 new employees when he could have just let you work an additional day.  This isn't making sense as it costs more to do that.
  • TRUST me I have asked all of those my questions my self!!!!!! No one in the office knows why he hired the two new girls as they do nothing but text on their phones the whole time they are here. They are no help to us. Second I have not been given a straight answer on this rainy day fund. Fro my understanding it wil go tward moe paid vacation days. We get two weeks, we used to get an additional week for every yerthat we hve been working, but he cut that out when one girl hit 5 yrs. So now we all get two weeks no matter what! Keep in mind this is the same dr who had a nervous breakdown about this ime las year and was hopitalized or 6 weeks and we lost a ton of patients. He is a real nut job!
  • I hate to say this but having worked in multiple doctor's offices it sounds like he may be getting ready to make cut backs.  I know in my hospital that a lot of people with experience are laid off first because they make more than new grads.  I know that is messed up and backwards but they save money that way.  If you have a full time receptionist and he hired two part time girls to answer the phones it sounds like he is getting ready to restructure his work force.  Especially if he is asking everyone to voluntarily take a pay cut in order for more vacation when most places only guarantee two weeks paid vacay anyway.  I hope that isn't true for your sake.  good luck sorting through everything!!!

    i agree...look for another job as that one doesn't seem stable...gl!

  • Is there any chance you can have a talk with him/her about this? Since you are paid differently and had no chance to vote I'd think it would not be out of line to at least ask and let the Dr. know that this will really hurt you.
