What can I read now? (seriously...)

I feel like the Twilight series killed my love of reading... I read the 4 books over the course of 2 weeks, then re-read them all over the past month... DH finally was like ok, find a new book, so I read a Sophie Kinsella book, cute, but mindless. And now I feel like I'll never be able to read other books w/o comparing them to Twilight, and I won't feel an emotional connection.

So seriously... any book recs???

Re: What can I read now? (seriously...)

  • That's how I felt after Harry Potter...then I found Twilight. So, I guess I'm no help there.
  • my CW's who suggested twilight are now trying to convince me to read harry potter! i told them I will, i'm just putting it off until march/april when DH will be travelling long weekends and i'll have the freedom to read all day long without feeling bad! lol

  • Hi! I'm new to this board. I just found it today.

I had the same problem after Twilight and it took me a few tries to get into a different book. I had to go in an entirely different direction. Trying to read another fantasy type book just didn't do it for me.

I read The Other Boelyn Girl and that totally got me out of my rut. I really enjoyed it.

  • I keep asking the same thing with no real answer. It's so funny how I thought I was "wierd" for feeling like that b/c NONE of my friends read the series, nor are they big readers. But I did start the Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse) series - it's pretty good & it reminds me a lot of Twilight. I have to go get the 2nd one, but in the meantime I just started SM's The Host. I am a bit confuzzled, but then again, I am only a few pages in. LOL GL in your search!!

  • Ditto to Charlaine Harris ...it's the southern vampire series and the HBO series "True Blood" is based on them..I got the box set for xmas and I'm already mid-way through the 4th book...

I'm really enjoying them and Charlaine does not cockblock ya' (like others...)?

Just remember ?the story is about Sookie and not a love story and you'll be Ok...?

  • I recommend the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris. This is a great series and similar to Twilight, but very different.

There are 8 books in the series right now and the 9th book will be out in May. The 1st book is Dead Until Dark. They have also made a HBO show out of the first book called True Blood.
