I belong to a cooking club. I think this is what you mean. Its an all girls group, not couples. We started it long ago when we were all single because we wanted to learn how to cook and did not want to cook for just one. We would take turns hosting, whoever would host would do the entree. We are about 8 now and have full rotation system-entree, appetizer, side, salad, bread, drink, dessert. We keep organized with google docs online. Two of us are married now. No matter how much I push, they don't want to do theme nights. They really like pot lucks which means sometimes you might get an entree of lasagne with a side of red beans! But they like the fun of it that way. When I host, I insist on themes though. I've done
kentucky derby, cajun, comfort food, brunch, cinco de mayo..
Its so much fun and great fellowship. Enjoy!
I'm not, but wish I was. My parents were in one when I was a kid - we (my sister and I) were recently asking my dad about how they ran theirs and this is what he said:
They went on one year cycles. There were 8 couples, so each couple would host once a year. (Nice, I imagine as it gives you the summer months and December off)
The couple was responsible for the whole meal, at their house.
One year they decided that it would be an ethinic theme - my dad wasn't clear on how they decided which couple got which ethinicity. He had some pretty funny stories about how this went hay wire. They did it one year, but never again.
An other year the requirement was that the men make the entire meal (Great idea, I thought!!!)
Other than that, it was really him reminincing about how much fun they had. Good luck setting yours up!
Hi,
This is a little late but I wanted to share in case you were still looking for ideas. My husband and I are in a supper club with 5 other couples. Each couple hosts supper club at their home twice a year. It's a lot of work cooking for twelve people when it's your month but so worth it for the friendships and fun we have. Dinner is usually followed by a game or activity but not always. Sometimes we dress up to go along with the theme. Our past themes have been: Breakfast for Dinner (everyone came in pajamas), Luau (we had grass skirts and leis for everyone), Famous Couples (we were Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio, others dressed as the Clintons, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, Spam and Eggs), WiiOlympics and we have next month wich will be Prom themed. This month's couple had a "Souptacular!" theme. They made four different soups with assorted breads and salad. December didn't really have a theme. It was a great meal and we made gingerbread houses after. It really depends on your group and what you are feeling like cooking. I hope I helped and I know you will enjoy being part of supper club!
